If you are a runDisney fan, then you might already know the Disney Princess Half Marathon registration has gotten off to a very rough start.
The registration was supposed to open this morning at 10 AM EST. However, that is not what happened. Let’s dive into everything that has gone on this morning.
UPDATE: Disney has shared that the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend registration will now open on Monday, June 8, at 10:00 AM ET.
The next Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will be February 25–March 1, 2027, and includes a 5K themed to Tiana, a 10K themed to Snow White, a half marathon themed to Jasmine, and a Fairy Tale Challenge themed to Ariel if you complete all three. This is one of the most beloved runDisney events, and fans look forward to it every year. However, there was an unprecedented issue today.
Registration was originally scheduled for 10 AM. This is important given the popularity of this event, as spots fill up very fast, so fans who love this race weekend are ready to register quick. However, registration did not open at 10 AM. Instead, everyone got a message saying that there was a delay, and an update would be given at 10:30 AM. However, that update only said that everyone could expect yet another update at 11 AM.
And then the update came through that the registration will no longer be happening today at all. Disney shared this message on their social media, “We know many of you are eager to register for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, and we apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, registration will not take place today.”
This was a shocking update, and it’s safe to say that guests are furious! One Instagram user shared, “As someone who had to take the day off to try to do this, I’m incredibly disappointed.” And this sentiment is shared by many other people responding in the comments to runDisney’s Instagram post. Lots of people either take off part of the day or the entire day in order to secure a spot in this event. That’s the level of competition for these spots, and now all of those people are out of luck.
runDisney has been a hugely popular event for years, so this level of traffic is to be expected. So many users were upset that these issues were happening since they feel as though Disney should expect this level of demand, with one user saying, “Get it together, please. The demand is not new.” With someone else sharing, “At this point, you need to share what happened. People take off work/block calendars for this. Please be better. You know it’s going to be high traffic!!!!”
Many users are worried that whenever the rescheduled registration is will no longer work with their schedules and they will miss out, with one person saying, “You better reschedule it to a weekend date so we don’t have to take off of work again.” Currently, Disney has not shared what the issue with registration was; however, they will be back on socials at 8 PM to share their next update. runDisney fans feel as though this kind of mistake is unacceptable, and they expect a much smoother and better experience from a company like Disney.

I’ve tried for years to do a run. My sister, local, used to enjoy doing them. But now it’s impossible for the average person to register and enjoy the run experience. Nearly all runners seem to be pros, often from other countries, and they fill up the slots in minutes! And these runs are not cheap! As with everything at Disney these days, the average American just can’t get a break at wdw. Sigh.
Couple of thoughts. This sounds like a Cloud glitch rather than a Disney-controlled issue off the top and without any external confirmation. This is something we’re seeing more and more of, and I expect it to increase in frequency not just for Disney but across the board. In fact, it’s something I worry about on a daily basis for some of my websites. And if backend processing is also in the cloud, fairly common, that could easily be disrupted as well. I’m just glad I don’t have to troubleshoot this one.
I’ve wanted to do a RunDisney event for a while but getting a slot is an achievement rather than the result of following the process, and that’s unfortunate. I wish I could get in ant get registered, but it just doesn’t seem to happen.
We AVOID all run weekends like the plague.
Okay, so why do people take days off to do registration? I’m confused. I understand WHY they want to register but if it opens at 10, why are taking a whole day off?
