Taking a voyage on the Disney Cruise Line is one of the most fun experiences this Disney adult has ever had, but there are certain things I’d wish I’d known beforehand.
One of the MAJOR ones had to do with the climate in my stateroom, and it’s SO EASY to make.
Each stateroom on Disney’s ships features personal climate controls so that passengers can set their room to the exact temperature they desire for sleep or simply lounging in their cabin. To activate the air conditioning, as well as your room’s lights, you’ll need to leave a key card inserted into a wall slot. Any card of this type will do, and recently Disney has even provided blank keys for this purpose.
However, before you tuck yourself into bed for a good night’s sleep on the high seas, there’s something you need to remember to do:
CLOSE YOUR BALCONY DOOR!
See, if you leave the verandah door open — even a crack — the AC in your room will turn off automatically to prevent condensation from building up in your room, leaving you with two choices: Deal with the heat, or get yourself out of bed to make sure the door is securely closed.
Speaking of ruining your Disney Cruise, an easy way to do so before you even reach your stateroom is trying to bring a banned item on board. The Disney Cruise Line has a relatively long and strict list of items that can’t be brought on board, including:
- Weapons & Firearms
- Marijuana & Illicit Drugs
- Blenders
- Bottle Sterilizers and Warmers
- Coffee Makers
- Coolers
- Diffusers
- Electric Blankets
- Electric Irons and Steamers
- Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
- Extension Cords, Power Strips, Multi-Plugs, and Surge Protectors
- Ham Radios
- Heating Elements
- Heating Pads
- Hookah Pipes
- Hot Plates
- Metal Detectors
- Microwave Ovens
- Power Tools, Hand Tools, and Toolboxes
- Remote-Controlled Airplanes, Drones, Toy Vehicles, Star Wars Droids
- Rice Cookers
- Toasters and Toaster Ovens
- Seasonal and/or Strands of Celebratory Lightbulbs
- Streaming Devices (Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, etc.)
Whether you’re preparing for your first or fiftieth Disney Cruise, be sure to keep these things in mind so you don’t inadvertently ruin your trip. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney Cruise Line tips.
