EPCOT’s World Showcase is a chance to travel around the world without ever having to leave Florida. Not only do you get to visit pavilions that represent countries from all over the world, but you also get to dine and shop as if you were visiting that country.
One of our favorite things, though, is learning about different cultures and food from around the world, and we just recently discovered a new way to drink beverages in EPCOT that we HAVE to tell you about. So, let’s head on over to the Japan Pavilion (one of our favs) and try an Ice Box for the very first time!
Our new cultural beverage adventure started at Mitsukoshi, where we discovered the Ice Box for $4.49. This is basically a cup of grapefruit-flavored crushed ice that’s popular in Japan during hot weather. You can eat it directly with a spoon or pour another drink over it and use it as a mixer.
What’s most interesting about it is that it’s formulated with sodium, vitamin C, and citric acid, so there are some good things in there, too, to help take care of your body on a hot day.
A Cast Member from Japan told us it’s popular to pour Kirin or other beverages over the ice, so we also picked up the Kirin Salty Lychee Soft Drink for $4.99, which is sort of like a rehydration drink. It’s like Gatorade, but with less salt and natural flavors. We poured that over the ice…and let me tell you, this is what EVERYONE should drink on these hot Florida days. The combination of flavors also worked so well together, and it’s not sickeningly sweet.
It’s also just fun to do this little ritual, rather than just grabbing some random cold thing ot drink. It just makes it all feel that much more special. So, if you want to take some time to really enjoy some refreshment in EPCOT, pop on over to Mitsukoshi.
We’ll keep an eye out for more unique snacks and drinks in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Paying $5 just to get ice is wild, even by Disney standards. I get that themed drinks cost more, but charging that much for a cup of ice would definitely make me think twice before ordering.
I’m glad to see more drinks without as much sugar and with some electrolytes in them. I have POTS and Florida heat messes with me. I haven’t yet found an electrolyte drink or mix that I can tolerate due to how salty they taste.
