Many of us know the stress of waiting in a virtual line for the chance to hopefully shop for that exclusive new item or collection that you’ve had your eye on. You watch the clock like a hawk, have memorized your card information (or already have it in your computer), and are hoping the virtual line will land in your favor.

To combat this issue, Loungefly has announced that they’ll introduce something new to make it fair for everyone, but it also leaves it up to chance. It’s called Pre-Authorization, and we’ve got a feeling we’ll start seeing it for specific new collections VERY soon, including ones seen at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
This new process is called Pre-Authorization, and Loungefly describes it as giving you the “opportunity to put in your credit card info for the item you want to enter for a chance to purchase that item.” This won’t be the case for all Loungefly drops, just online special drops, such as con exclusives, such as some of the ones from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event that will be available online, as well as at the con.

To clarify, this won’t affect anyone shopping IN PERSON at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event this upcoming weekend, nor will it currently affect any in-person shopping events with Loungefly bags. This is just for special online releases that often garner those massive online lines. How exactly will it work? Well, a pre-authorization window will open for a few days for select special items. On the item(s) you want the chance to buy, you’ll hit “Enter Now” and be taken to where you’ll put in your card info. A temporary hold for the item’s amount will be put on your card, but the charge will only go through if you are randomly selected as a winner for that item. If you aren’t randomly selected, the hold will disappear. If you win, you will receive an email confirming your item has shipped, and you’ll be charged on the card you used for pre-authorization, but if you don’t win, no email will be sent.

Yes, this means that it won’t matter anymore what time you get in line; everyone will be selected at random for the chance to receive the item. Loungefly puts it well, saying, “Instead of having to ensure you have all your credit card info ready to go on launch day, all of your info will already be on file and ready to go if you’re selected as a winner for the accessory you want.” Now, if there is stock left of an item after the pre-authorization period, the rest of the stock will release online as normal for anyone to purchase, without the need for any pre-authorization. The pre-authorization window for D23 exclusives will open on August 10th, 2026 at 9am PT, and close on August 13th, 2026 at 11:59pm PT. Winners will be selected on August 14th, 2026 at 12am PT.

I understand the difficulty often experienced in trying to buy something new when it launches but I don’t like this at all!!! They hold the amount hostage on your credit card with no guarantee you’ll actually be able to buy it?? Maybe you’ll be “randomly selected as a winner?!” Get real!!! This isn’t a contest….it’s a purchase! I’ve never liked the way Loungefly has done business (their customer service is sorely lacking) but this is the most ridiculous scheme I ever heard of! They can keep their backpacks!
