Discovery Island Trails and Tree of Life
Our favorite spot for a bit of alone time is probably the Discovery Island Trails, also known as the Tree of Life Trails. The self-guided walkways surround the park’s massive icon, and usually, they’re a lot less crowded than other areas of the park.
You can enter behind the tree near the bridge to Africa or across from Adventurer’s Outpost (where you meet Mickey and Minnie). Or, you can get up close to the front of the icon by visiting the Tree of Life garden, which has entrances near Pizzafari and across from Discovery Trading Company. While you’re wandering through the trails, make sure to take a look at the many amazing carvings on the tree — there are over 400 animals depicted!
Height requirement: None
Ages: ALL
Access: Self-guided
Discovery Island Animals
An assortment of animals are on display. During your Discovery Island exploration, see how many animals you can find!
Look for Asian Small-Clawed Otters, Cotton-Top Tamarins, Flamingos, Kangaroos, Lemurs, Paroon Shark Catfish, Stork, Tortoise, and Vultures.
Discovery Island Dining
Table Service Restaurant
Tiffins Restaurant brings signature dining to Disney World’s wildest park. Here you’ll be met with an international cuisine meant to bring out your explorer and adventurous side!
This restaurant’s cuisine is a mix of African, Asian, and South American-inspired dishes.
When you visit Tiffins, your jaw will drop at the level of detail in the decor. The walls are lined with beautiful artwork found within each of the three dining rooms.

Counter Service Restaurants
One of our favorite quick-service spots is Flame Tree Barbecue! We love the scenery here, as well as the food!
This place is known for its barbecue-sauced snacks, including the Macaroni & Cheese dishes and Pulled Pork options. Both are EXCELLENT!
Located on Discovery Island, the next spot is best known for its unique and colorful atmosphere. The primary food item is pizza, but you’ll find better versions elsewhere.
For a quick snack at Pizzafari, try the Cheese Garlic Bread.
Snack Stops and Kiosks
Creature Comforts is the resident Starbucks inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In addition to their familiar coffees and decorative drinks, they’re known for limited-time snacks and seasonal sweets.
Eight Spoons Café is a small stand serving its signature baked mac and cheese with stunning views of the Tree of Life.
Plus, there’s rarely a wait!
While there are plenty of popcorn stands in Disney World, The Feeding Ground is also home to a few unique cocktails!
You’ll find this location near the entrance to Zootopia: Better Zoogether (the attraction housed in Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life) to pick up some popcorn.
If you’re in search of a cup of coffee, stop by the Isle of Java kiosk on Discovery Island just before entering Asia.
You’ll find coffee and breakfast pastries (including the Tiger Tail Chocolate Twist) on the menu.
The Smiling Crocodile has had quite the shifting menu for quite some time, and it appears that two Arepas are the new stars here.
With no seating at this location, we recommend walking over to Flame Tree’s pavilion areas.
Terra Treats is a colorful kiosk that you’ll pass on the Discovery Island Trail as you trek towards Africa.
This kiosk is typically open seasonally for busy days in the park. The current menu features Hand-scooped Ice Cream goodies!
Bars & Lounges
It’s no secret that here at DFB, we love Nomad Lounge.
Nomad Lounge allows guests to try some small bites that come STRAIGHT from the Tiffins kitchen while also sipping on some of the best handcrafted cocktails Disney resort-wide.
