Over at Epcot’s Karamell-Küche in the Germany pavilion, there are endless treats to try…as we all know.
The caramel smell hits you like a wave when you walk into the shop, and I sincerely suggest you eat before you stop in, because if you’re even the least big hungry, I promise that your eyes will be significantly bigger than your stomach…as mine were a couple of weeks ago!
Stopping in to get a bit of information about how the caramel corn is made (my Dad needed the details as he’s working very hard on duplicating the recipe! Yay!), I, of course, had to check out the display cases. And I saw this.
I know I’ve seen it before, but it never called out to me like it did on this visit. (You know how that is…when food calls out to you…right? No?) Sweet, gooey caramel layered onto a lovely piece of shortbread. Shortbread crumbles on top. Simple, yet pretty freaking perfect, wouldn’t you say?

I made a snap decision to grab it, and I was SO glad I did. You see, things like this get overlooked compared to the more flashy items in the candy counter. They also put these on a lower shelf toward the end of the row, so many folks have already chosen what they’re going to buy before they even see these little beauties. But I mean LOOK at that! It’s like heaven!
And don’t let the simplicity or the location fool you. I’m pretty sure this is one of my favorite treats to date from Karamell-Küche. The salty-sweet of both the caramel and the shortbread offer fantastic flavor, both tastes are as rich as can be, and the juxtaposition of texture in this treat makes it even more compelling. Look for this one. You won’t be sorry!

Here in Scotland, (probably all of the UK), we would make that with chocolate on top and call it Millionaires shortbread!

I agree that the smell is overwhelming…soooo good!! When we were there in January we had just had dinner at the Biergarten so we were in no state to buy anything from here. But I’ve made a note of this scrumptious looking treat so that I make sure to try it next time we’re there!

As a lover of both shortbread and caramel, this snack called out to me when we were there in February. It ties for my favorite along with the caramel marshmallow swirl. Yum!

I must try this on my next visit! Last time I spent my calories on chocolate caramel fudge and it was worth every one!!
When I went to Disney a few weeks ago I forgot about many of the snacks I wanted to try. Karamel Kuche was not one of them. When I saw it I ran inside with delight. Fantastic place to get a treat.
I want to go to Scotland to try that Millionaire’s Shortbread.. but my trip to WDW is already planned, so I might have to try that!!
at my local grocery store we found some shortbread with caramel on top . topped with chocolte.. yummmmmmmmmy….
Ooo I missed those on my last visit to the Karamel Kuche but I’ll be sure to grab one next time. I love millionaires shortbread and I’m sure this is much like it (minus the chocolate).
I did purchase a few treats when I was there – a rocky road caramel apple, a chocolate and caramel covered strawberry, a chocolate and caramel cupcake and a chocolate and caramel covered rice krispie treat (all but the apple were bought with snack credits!) All were incredibly delicious too.
You are all my favorite people in the world. We NEED to form a club around this particular treat.
Count me in as a member of this club! Caramel is to me what chocolate is to most people. We were there in October, and I think I spent the majority of my snack fund in this store. I didn’t try the shortbread, but I will when we visit again in December. I can already smell the caramelly goodness…
Can we add some peanut butter to this one for those of us who don’t have the allergy bug? I think that might be the only way to make this sound more appetizing…

Oh. My. Goodness. I finally had a chance to go to the World this week and got the shortbread with caramel and pecans. It was amazing!!! I wish I could have more shipped to me now that I am home. I can’t stop thinking about it!
There are two types of caramel shortbread that are very common in any Scottish bakery and both go very well with a nice cup of tea (although I’m sure coffee will be the choice of our American cousins).
The first has a shortbread base with a caramel topping and this is also topped with chocolate. Commonly known as millionaires shortbread.
The second (which I prefer) is a shortbread base with a runnier caramel and topped with chocolate sprinkles. It is known simply as caramel shortcake.
Google has plenty of pictures and recipes for anyone that is interested.

I’ve not tried it myself but the macaroon version certainly appeals.
Oh yeah, food calls to me all the time…well, certain foods do anyway. Caramel is definitely one of them (chocolate is, too). On my last trip I just missed the opening of the Caramel Kitchen. I will certainly be correcting that sad state of affairs this year on my holiday trip and I can’t wait to get into that candy shop. EPCOT definitely on my first day.

I make something very similar to these called “Salted Caramel Butter Bars”. They are to die for!!! Can’t wait to try this one at WDW in December. 🙂

Well, I just tried this on my 1st holiday trip this year and it is WONDERFUL!!!! I brought home several treats from the Caramel Kitchen and everyone was absolutely delicious. I just wish I had known about the ‘Salted Caramel’ drink while I was there; I would definitely have tried it.
This is my favorite sweet treat in World’s Showcase, that is no easy feat.
I make these often. They are my son’s favorite.
