Lee says
Great news for the 0.1% of the population who are vegan, and the whopping 2% who are vegetarian…
Nick Andrews says
Exactly my thoughts, Lee. What is the point of trying to make something many find gross to look exactly like the thing the one in a million find gross? And it’s pretty much false advertising to boot…
Katarina says
Hey, Lee, it sure is! We’re genuinely super excited! It’s cool if it doesn’t float your boat, but it makes this vegan really happy & I’m really looking forward to trying it soon. 🙂
Heather says
Thank you so much! I was wondering what I could eat in MK! ❤️
Leigh says
Yeah! My whole family has been avoiding this restaurant for a decade as we couldn’t all eat there. This makes it an option now. I’m trying this next time I go! Thanks for the post.
Sonya says
Yes it is, indeed! Thanks for looking out for us 😉
Bek says
As a vegetarian, this is very exciting news!
Debe says
Kudos to Disney for appreciating everyone’s desire to eat better! Regardless of whether they eat meat regularly or not.
By the way, given that Disney caters to an International clientele, those percentages are higher than previously noted. 3.2 vegetarian and .5 vegan worldwide.
Becky S says
Lee –
When you consider that hundreds of thousands of people go to WDW every day, 2% is nothing to sneer at (although actual estimates are more like 10% of young adults are vegetarian). Consider also that most people don’t travel to WDW by themselves. People come as part of a group (typically). When there is a vegetarian in the group, the entire group won’t go to a restaurant if there aren’t veg options. If 1 in 10 young adults are vegetarian, and people travel in groups of 5 or so, that means about every other group of young people includes a vegetarian!
But don’t forget that this is a hot dog place, which means there is likely pork in most of their products. That means Jewish people, Muslim people, Hindus, and pescetarians also wouldn’t go to that quick service place. Now that there’s a vegetarian option, it opens it up as a possibility for many, many groups who wouldn’t otherwise consider eating there.
Leigh says
Yeah! This looks great! I have been avoiding this place for a decade as the whole family could not dine there. Now we can! I’m getting this when I go next week- thanks for posting. The slaw and sauce look great.
Bill Mcveigh says
Actually… there are over 7 million vegetarians in the US alone, and close to 700 million across the world. Just saying. I’m also a vegetarian for the last 30 years, an WDW Passholder, and DVC member, and look forward to finally enjoying something at Casey’s!!! Great news!!!
Bill says
The U.S. plant based food industry has also grossed over 4.9 billion dollars last year alone… yet another fact.
Bill says
No ones taking your meat away Lee. It will be ok.
Stacey says
There were almost no vegan options in the parks. We are so very grateful disney is listening! There are so many people in disney vegan groups you’d be surprised! And it doesn’t matter how many of us the are, there’s more than you think, and we have a right to be able to eat at disney too! Thanks disney food blog for this article!
Emma says
@Lee – not sure where you’re getting your statistics, but the percentage of vegetarians worldwide is actually closer to 10%. And this number does not include individuals who opt-out of meat for health reasons. Don’t really see the issue with adding a menu item that appeals to these individuals. Meanwhile, the percentage of people who are allergic to gluten is only about 1%, but virtually every restaurant has gluten-free options. Was there another post where you lamented those menu additions too, or is your issue (for some reason) just with vegan/vegetarian items?
Megan says
I’m not vegetarian or vegan (and have no desire to be one), but I do like to work in some non-animal meals into my diet each week. I think adding this to the menu is a great option for people.
David says
We were just at Disney and stopped by Casey’s for the first time to buy some hot dogs for my sons. We usually do not eat here because they did not have vegetarian options. Now we have a reason to go there! It sounds good to me. A step up from a standard hot dog.
Leigh says
this sounds amazing! thanks for the post
Erica Fentress says
Lee – actually a study from 2017 found that about 6% of the US population now considers themselves to be vegan. It’s a growing movement!
DFB Sarah says
Stacey, we’re not surprised to hear there are lots of vegans/vegetarians looking for tasty options in the parks. We hear from folks looking for plant-based options all the time! 🙂 Glad you liked the article!
Otila Rock The Aloha says
I am so very excited for this new addition! It’s nice to not have to traverse the entire park for a vegan option. When they introduced the plant based sausage at Friar’s Nook it sold out the first few days as the demand was more than anticipated. Now I can have Casey’s Corner & walk over to get Vegan Ice Cream, dream come true at Magic Kingdom!
Jackie says
Fantastic!!! Soooooo happy to hear it. I’ll definitely try it when we’re there next month. Thank you so much for reporting on this! 😀
Kim C says
Can’t wait to try this in November!!
Ali G says
I am not vegetarian or vegan, but am really excited about this! I will definitely be trying this when I go in January! Also, my husband who is a big meat eater has asked if we can add more vegetarian meals to our routine for health reasons, so this is good for those people as well.
Patricia C says
I like this option too! I try to go meat-free once a week, just for health reasons, and now I can keep up my routine while away. Lee and Nick Andrews, not sure why you seem unhappy about this. If you don’t like it, don’t eat it!
Thomas J says
I was happy to see this news. Our family used to make Casey’s a mandatory stop but, in 2003 my wife gave up all meat products so no more Casey’s. Now I know that we’ll make a stop there in February. Looking forward to renewing our tradition.
Carolyn says
While not a vegan, I have a very frustrating dairy allergy, so I’m glad to see the vegan slaw that maybe they will put on a regular dog or on the side? I’ll have to ask next time were at Casey’s, thanks for the info!!!
DFB Sarah says
Carolyn — definitely ask!
Rachelle G says
While I am not a vegetarian, my mom is. So this is GREAT news for us! We will be there in 2 weeks and never have been to Casey’s Corner because of the all meat variety this location offers. So this will be a great option for us. I don’t mind a meat-free entrée, but my husband MUST have meat on his plate. =) So this will be great for everyone!
Tink says
This is wonderful news!! This vegan is very, very happy to be acknowledged, and to have another delicious option.
I will never understand why it is so difficult for certain people to get through their heads that it’s not the look or taste of meat that inspires people to not eat it. It’s what it is. It may look, smell, and taste like a sausage, but no breathing, thinking, emoting being had to be tortured to achieve it. Is that really so difficult to understand?
You probably think it would be gross to eat a human eyeball, but at Halloween, you’d shove fruit-flavored gummy eyeballs in your mouth without a single thought. Ponder that for a moment.
sharon says
I was just there and tried it. 1st bite not so sure but when you got a bite of everything it was better. Then I added onions and pickle relish and I loved it. Very Good. Would get again.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks for sharing, Sharon!
BirdieGirl says
Actually, you’d be surprised how delicious the Beyond Meat products are….I am a meat eater who will go out of my way to purchase their products. While my husband and son happily eat their macaroni and cheese hot dogs, I’ll be very excited to try this version! Thanks, Disney!
Scott says
So glad that Disney is adding more vegan options. I went there with my fiance two years ago, and we had some trouble finding things to eat at the parks. I think it’s great business for Disney, seeing as how the last two years the lifestyle has been exploding in popularity.
As others have said @Lee , they’re not taking away the meat options, so I’m not sure why there’s anything to be upset about. More options for all diets and lifestyles are a positive thing, unless you somehow feel like just the fact that they’re adding it makes you feel attacked for some reason.
Jackie says
We just got to try the “Plant-Based Loaded Dog” at Casey’s Corner yesterday and were soooooooooo happy!!!! Genuinely tastes great and made for filling, yummy meal. I got mine with apple slices instead of fries, and DH (who is neither vegan nor vegetarian but enjoys a delicious healthy option) got fries with his. Definitely recommend it and can’t wait to go back to have it again! Thanks again for telling us about it, AJ – we really appreciate it! 😀
Amy A. says
@Lee
Your 0.1% is a bit low, but I’m guessing you didn’t bother to check facts before inflicting us with your opinion. It’s probably closer to 4% and while that might not seem significant to you, that is still about 7 million people. These are people who have made a positive lifestyle choice, not out of superiority or judgement to those who continue to eat an animal product diet. It’s a very personal decision. There are also people who might NOT have a choice due to allergies or restrictions. So, why the sarcasm and annoyance? I would bet my next trip to Disney (gasp!) that the number quoted above will continue to grow and grow. Open your eyes and wake up, the 21st century is calling.
PS, French fries are vegan and pizza can be vegan or vegetarian. I can list about 100 (both non-healthy AND healthy) vegan/vegetarian food items that are delicious in about 1 minute flat. So if you think vegan/vegetarian food is ‘gross’ you’re likely ignorant to what it actually means. I feel sorry for you.
Disneyworld is one of the most friendly places for a ‘vegan’ to visit. I had amazing food and service both times I visited. I can’t wait to go back and try a plant based slaw dog at Casey’s Corner!

I was thrilled they had the plant-based dog at Casey’s last year when I was at the Magic Kingdom. It was just the right food for a day in a magical place! Tasty and festive. I highly recommend it and look forward to eating there again on a future trip.

I tried it and loved it. I wish I could find the recipe online so I could make them at home. Even if you are not vegan/vegetarian, the toppings are amazing and would be great on a regular hot dog. Anyone have any idea if there recipe is anywhere??
