Disney has been getting creative with the way they are handling online shopping these days!
Disney created an online shopping event for guests who wish to purchase the new Disneyland Resort 65th Anniversary merchandise. Shoppers can now purchase the merch online and either head to Downtown Disney for a pick-up or have it sent to their home. Either way, if you choose to shop online, you’ll likely have to “stand” in a virtual line to get it.
The new MerchPass system went live today on shopDisney. while the 65th Anniversary drop is happening at the same time! The two systems are being handled a little differently. MerchPass is allowing guests to enter a lottery that will give them a chance for early access to the new Arendelle Castle Collection.
The virtual line system is being used to purchase the anniversary gear. Let’s see how that virtual line is going, shall we?
When we last checked, there are only 48,000 people ahead of us! At this point, we’ll be able to buy our 65th-anniversary merch by the time the 75th anniversary rolls around. 😉 The line does seem to be moving, albeit very slowly. We’re not sure how many people have already finished their purchases or how much merch is left!
We’re curious to see how either the MerchPass system or online drops are going to work out in the future. It seems that Disney experimenting with new ways for shoppers to make purchases from the comfort of their homes. We’ll be interested to see if this reduces any technical glitches and website crashes too!

The virtual line has been paused for over an hour, there’s a message that they’re letting people complete purchases before restarting line. Already seeing items on EBAY while most of us sit here staring at a screen that’s not moving

I dont understand why they are letting people buy so many quantities of items. 10 of EACH size for the Jerseys? Really who needs that many unless you are planning on selling them on-line for a jacked up price? Doesnt leave much hope for those of us who are 49,000 in line. 🙁

The Merch Pass system actually went live for the first time yesterday for the new castle march. I know because I was able to enter for several of the items at 10 am est, which is when it went up. I haven’t yet gotten an email for any of the items I entered for.

I waited for about 2.5 hours. I started with only 1200 people in front of me. After almost an hour it was down to 165 – then the line paused…for an additional hour! I was able to get the Day of Shirt, Logo Pin and Puzzle. They didn’t have all of the items listed and some of the things that they said were sold out were showing availability. You have the option of picking up your stuff at Disneyland or having it shipped for $9.99. It looked as though they took all discounts (Cast Member, APs, Disney Visa, DVC, etc).

In line since 1:00 on the dot. Frustrating to see that they’re already sold out of the marquee pin, and yet at least 5 of them are already for sale on eBay…with one guaranteeing delivery by 7/20. Here’s hoping there’s something left for those of us just trying to add to our personal collections!
Carole says
Same here since 1pm

Started out somewhere above #9000 in line. After 5 hours, I’d made it to 4500. Internet went down and queue page died. When I got back online, I was #73000+. Oh well…
Craig says
Been waiting since 10:30am there were already 54k ahead of me it’s now 4:30pm and there are 37k still ahead of me this is ridiculous by the time I get in there won’t be anything left
Mark says
Got to the select shipment and selected pickup at park . We tried many different times and different days. Nothing worked. It kept saying pick a delivery time .

This was an absolute travesty. I entered the queue on time with 14, 000 people ahead of me. I waited almost 6.5 hours to get in. I finally get in and select my items which none were the passholder items. It kept asking me for a picture of my pass for a discount. I selected no discount but it kept bringing me back again and again. Nowhere to get help for this. It eventually booted me out with nothing. What a waste of time. Thanks so much Disney!!

The virtual line went slowly but effectively until checkout. They didn’t say the order form would be picky about the file type or file size of the copy of my AP. So it didn’t take my pdf and in the confusion of trying to correct and resubmit, I got logged off and lost my entire order. My son was trying on his phone and his jpgs of the AP were too large. By the time he reshot them in a smaller size, he was timed out. End result: over six hours of waiting and the order was lost–twice–at the last step. At least when the release sold out in minutes, the pain was over with quickly.

I got to the order sheet, filled everything out. Last thing I had to do was pay… it wouldn’t get me to the payment page. I ended up in a loop going from entering your AP picture (didn’t have one, said we didn’t have one on an earlier screen) back to the review info page. There was no way to get past that issue.

My experience with the virtual waiting room today was actually great! When it opened,
I was 22,700-ish. At 5:45 I was allowed to purchase and luckily all I wanted was a spirit jersey which was still available. Overall, I’d take this long waiting day over the chaotic crash that was the Tiki Room Main Attraction any day. And at least this time, I was actually able to purchase what I wanted.

I had 16000 ahead of me. Waited 6 hours and then it had database errors that caused me to not get my item and lost my place. So done with ShopDisney and the jerks that buy up the merchandise to sell on EBay.
Val Ramirez says
Got all the way to your next in line only for it to state ‘system error’ and kick me all the way to the beginning after waiting for 8 hours online.
YOUR SYSTEM SUCKED
DFB Sarah says
Val, you might try reaching out to ShopDisney; DFB doesn’t have any control over their systems.

I was actually surprised how smoothly things went with the exception of my wait time. I logged in at 10:28 am and was # 49,687. I thought there was no way I would make it to the end and still have anything available. It took just under 13 hours for my turn. Although the pin we wanted had sold out 3 hours prior I was able to get 2 jerseys for my girls. Once we got into the order form things went very smoothly and check out was a breeze but we weren’t using any discount with the exception of using our Disney Visa which worked easily.
Brandon says
here’s my experience.
Spoiler: It was a complete cluster of a mess.
=========
I started at number 5,540 in line. Not too bad. Right? Considering when I opened another browser just to see what the line looked like 5 mins after going live it was 57,000+
7 hours later, I’ve finally been let in to make my purchases.
I wanted 2 pins. But 1 was sold out.
When I got to the checkout screen, I got stuck in a loop.
1st, I put “Disney Visa Card” as my discount. It said “To receive the discount I just had to pay with the Visa Card.” Okay… cool.
Then when I got to the final “Make sure everything is correct screen” with the total cost, shipping and billing address, etc, I hit “Continue” and it took me to a page to upload proof of my discount.
Um Okay. It said, all I needed to do was pay with the Disney Visa card. So I just hit “Continue” without uploading anything.
Then I was taken back to the check out screen. “Continue”
Now I’m taken back to the Proof of discount upload page. “Continue”
So this time I went ahead and uploaded a copy of my Visa card. Cause clearly that was the problem. Hit “Continue.”
Then I was taken back to the check out screen. “Continue”
Now I’m taken back to the Proof of discount upload page. “Continue”
I did that a few times, then I decided to remove the option for the Disney Visa Discount. But it still kept asking for proof of discount.
After doing this about 25 times, I finally gave up.
Not that that mattered because the site finally timed me out.
I just wanted 1 pin. That’s all.
Definitely not a well run site.
I’m very disappointed.

I tried contacting shop Disney and they are full of incompetence. After waiting an hour a rude lady kept saying we don’t have a sale going on and there’s no event till she checked with her supervisor then told me to call guest services at Disneyland merchandise. Called and gave me some guy named Joe Gardner in Anaheim…thanks for the fake number

I entered the virtual queue around 9:50am and had like 22,800 in front of me. I FINALLY got in to buy the merch at 5:45pm. Got to the part to upload my AP front and back and when I got to the next page and clicked continue, it brought me back to the AP page. After numerous times uploading the pics again, I figured out that I had to click the option to resize my pics. That worked but bc I spent too much time, my order got deleted so had to re-add it again. After all of that, it worked and I was able to get the Spirit Jersey, Mickey ears (hat style) and both AP shirts.

I got online about 3pm est. About 15,000 people ahead of me. I checked and the limited edition stuff was already sold out. Got back on line around 8am in the morning and I stilled had 1500 people ahead of me. I am glad that I did not stay by the computer. There is no way that this system is fair to the people who want only 1 item.
Bob says
I logged in at 4:00 pm pst yesterday with 79,000 people ahead of me and I finally got to purchase at 6:15 am pst this morning. It went smoothly. I wish they had more coins available. They are selling anywhere from $599 to $1,000 on EBay.

I got on line yesterday waited in the virtual line for about 15 minutes I got the Spirit Jersey Loungefly mini Backpack ornament and the Lithographs
