If you are a Disney fan or know one, you know that a Disney Gift Card can often be the PERFECT gift!
Or, if you’re just trying to set a budget for merchandise or snacks for your next Disney trip, placing a certain amount of money on a Disney Gift Card for each member of your family can be a great way to control spending in the parks. If you’re a Disney Visa Cardholder, you may also be saving up all those Disney Rewards Dollars for your next trip. But, today was definitely not the day to be using either of those payment methods.
We visited two pavilions today in EPCOT where Disney gift cards were not being accepted, and then we found this sign at one spot in the Germany pavilion indicating that they were unable to accept gift cards at the moment.
According to one Cast Member we spoke to, it appears the system is having technical difficulties and not registering any balances. The Germany booth for the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival also was not accepting gift cards at the time we checked today.
When we tried to purchase a new gift card in EPCOT, the Cast Member we spoke to said gift card sales were also not taking place at this time. The Cast Member noted that they’re hoping it will all be up and running later today, but they have no way of activating any gift cards until the system is properly working again.
We also checked at PizzeRizzo in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and were told that gift cards were not being accepted. Another Cast Member we spoke to in Hollywood Studios told us the system has been up and down throughout the day today. They advised us to have another form of payment ready as a backup.
Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we heard a Cast Member who was coordinating guests in the queue for Satu’li Canteen say that if you wanted to pay with a Disney Gift Card or Rewards Card, they would be unable to accommodate those payment types at this time.
So, it truly appeared to be a property-wide issue today. It’s a good lesson to keep in mind, however. Even if you’ve planned to pay for a lot of your trip expenses with Disney gift cards, you should always have a backup payment method ready in case the system does not work for some reason. If we hear any more updates on this situation, we’ll let you know. Be sure to come back for more Disney news!
