With Halloween just a few weeks away, it seems the ghosts over at The Haunted Mansion are truly making their presence known!
Lately, we’ve seen Haunted Mansion pins, bags, and more around Disney World and Disneyland. But, now, we’ve found a Haunted Mansion treat that is truly unique!
As we scrolled through Instagram, we saw a new story post from The Creole Creamery, an ice cream shop with several locations in Louisiana and Mississippi, that stopped us dead in our tracks. The post was for…HAUNTED MANSION ICE CREAM! It’s called “Doom Buggy” ice cream, to be specific.
You may be thinking, “What’s so special about this new treat?” Well, it’s got black raspberry ice cream, dark chocolate stracciatella (a variety of gelato), and…DARK CHOCOLATE-COVERED BUGS. Yes, real. bugs. Looks like the happy haunts just made do with whatever ingredients they could find around the Mansion.
According to their post, there’s not just ONE bug in this ice cream. No, no, the ghosts wouldn’t stand for that. Instead, there are food-grade crickets, silkworms, soldier fly larvae, and grasshoppers all roasted until crispy, salted, and then covered in dark chocolate. Yum or gross? We HAD to find out! So, we made our way over to Creole Creamery’s Uptown Location to investigate.
We saw lots of delicious flavors available, but cookie monster and cookies & cream will have to wait for another day. We’re here for the bugs!
We should note quickly that those with shellfish and crustacean allergies are advised to stay away from this unique treat.
Back to our investigation — from afar, the ice cream looks relatively harmless. Those dark dots could just be chocolate, right?
But, take a look up close and there’s no mistaking it…THOSE ARE BUGS IN OUR ICE CREAM!
So, how does it taste? Let’s be honest, if you’re terrified of even seeing a bug fly around you, this is probably not going to be a good fit for you. But, if you’re an adventurous eater and perhaps you’ve tried a few bugs already (La Cava del Tequila anyone?), then you may find this ice cream frightful yet delightful.
The ice cream itself is fruity and creamy, and the bugs add an oddly satisfying (but also somewhat disconcerting) crunch. On the plus side, you could also play the very unique game of “is this a bug or is this chocolate?”
From what we can see, this flavor is only shown on Instagram stories as a seasonal special for The Creole Creamery’s Uptown location (see the address below), so be sure to head there if you want to check this out while it’s still available. We’ve reached out to The Creole Creamery via Instagram to confirm if this flavor will be available at any of their other locations, and we’ll let you know if we hear any update from them.
Update:Â The Creole Creamery responded to us via Instagram and told us that the Doom Buggy flavor will eventually make its way to their other locations, but it is currently only available in their Uptown store.
If, however, you’d prefer that your snacks only have gummy (and not real) bugs in them, then there are some fun Halloween treats in Disney World for you! We’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so be sure to check back with us for more updates.

My friend’s family owns Creole Creamery. Their ice cream is outstanding, perhaps this flavor notwithstanding… 🙂
