Today has certainly been full of Disney surprises!
During the Disney Investor Day webcast, we got sneak peeks at a ton of new Star Wars series, new Marvel series, new movies, and more!
But there was one thing that surprised us (well, OK…MANY things, but this was quite interesting). During the presentation, Disney CFO Christine McCarthy admitted something huge about the Disney+ demographics. Although Disney+ was initially targeted to children and families, more adults WITHOUT children are actually subscribers in its total addressable market.
Okay, so maybe it isn’t that surprising — it’s many of US! And Disney+ DOES have a lot of programming that appeals to all ages. Plus so much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and not to mention original programming is on the service. Or maybe it’s just a LOT of Mandalorian stans. 😉

Update: In March of 2021, Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek participated in a conference and actually shared that he didn’t realize the amount of non-family appeal that Disney+ would have, and the level of engagement across the globe was surprising.

In fact, Chapek shared that 50% of Disney+ subscribers do not have kids, which is a much higher percentage than the company originally thought. WOW! Well, there’s lots more content for kids with families and those without that will be coming to Disney+ soon.
