Raya and the Last Dragon will premiere on Disney+ Premiere Access and in theaters in a few short weeks!
We can’t wait to follow Raya on her mission to find the last dragon and restore her fractured land its people. And just this morning, Disney shared that TWO new Raya experiences are coming to the parks. When it comes to the film, if you’re planning to head to the theaters to watch the premiere, you’ll have the chance to see Disney’s newest short right before the movie!
Entertainment Weekly shared a first look at Disney’s new theatrical short, Us Again, that will premiere before Raya and the Last Dragon. This will be the first theatrical short released by Walt Disney Animation in five years and will follow the story of an elderly couple who renew their love for life through dance.
Written and directed by Zach Parish (head of animation for Disney’s Big Hero 6), the animated short will have no dialogue and relies solely on dance and music to tell the story.
Parrish was inspired by two real-life dancers, Keone and Mari Madrid who are the living love story behind the short. He fused the inspiration with his experience in his mid-30s when he began to realize that age was starting to inhibit his ability to play basketball with as much gusto as he once had.
Out of that came the story of an elderly couple who drink from the fountain of youth and dance through the streets of the city in the six-minute short. The short will debut before Raya and the Last Dragon in theaters on March 5th and will arrive on Disney+ in June.
