We’re getting excited for Disney World’s 50th anniversary!
The celebration will begin October 1st, 2021 (that’s Disney World’s 50th birthday!), and will be a whopping 18 months long. Mickey and Minnie are gonna rock brand-new costumes, and each of the 4 park icons will receive a mini-transformation. And believe it or not, we’ve already seen some progress on the Cinderella Castle makeover in Magic Kingdom! Plus, we’ve gotten a behind-the-scenes peek at what the final result will look like.
But today, Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley shared a look at the inspiration behind the transformation. A huge part of that inspiration came from Disney Legend Mary Blair, who worked on a ton of classic Disney films (including Cinderella!). Riddley explained that her “designs provided us a beautiful palette of rich hues to choose from” — we’ll see deep blues, purple, and gold on the final look.
You can see how Disney will draw details from Blair’s concept art: just take a look at those similarities! And if you noticed the ribbons draping on the castle turrets — those are inspired by Cinderella’s transformation into her iconic gown.
And guys: we’re already seeing these special touches on Cinderella Castle! When we visited Magic Kingdom recently, we noticed those gold and deep blue details already up.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more about the 50th anniversary transformations all around Disney World! As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news and updates.
