Another Disney Park Is Celebrating a BIG Anniversary — Here's How!

We’ve been talking a LOT about the upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration for Walt Disney World. But Shanghai Disney Resort is getting ready for a party of its own to celebrate its 5th Anniversary in a BIG way!

Shanghai Disney Resort opened on June 16, 2016, and Disney is sharing the scoop on how guests can look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary. The great news is that the celebration will begin a little early, as the “Year of Magical Surprises!” will kick off on April 8, 2021!

New and exclusive experiences and surprises are coming not only to Shanghai Disneyland, but will expand to the Resort’s two hotels and Disneytown (and even beyond)!

Entertainment

The pre-parade for Mickey’s Storybook Express will receive an anniversary overlay.

And guests can look forward to the “ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration” spectacular!

The Lands of Shanghai Disneyland

The themed lands that make up Shanghai Disneyland will each be illuminated. And special 5th Anniversary decorations will be seen on the streets of Mickey Avenue. Not only will guests see the anniversary touches, they’ll also HEAR them as new soundtracks will “bring the celebrations to life.” And, of course, limited edition merchandise will be available for purchase to commemorate the celebration.

And there’s MUCH more in store…

Disney Characters and the NEW Surprise Squad

Beloved Disney characters will get in on the fun! (They wouldn’t miss it!)

Mickey at Shanghai Disneyland Royal Banquet Hall

Favorite characters will be joined by “rarely seen friends” in a greeting.

And Disney cast members will form the new Surprise Squad! They will greet guests and unveil “additional wonders,” like souvenirs. They’ll also present opportunities for guests to attend the Disney “Surprise!” Show. This presentation will offer chances to win prizes including an exclusive VIP treatment. SURPRISE!

More Fun to Come

Both Shanghai Disneyland Resort hotels and Disneytown will get dressed up with 5th Anniversary makeovers. And this is all just a first glimpse!

There will be more announcements on the way for the “Year of Magical Surprises!”
