If you didn’t know, Disney World is celebrating a BIG birthday this year — 50 years of magic!
Disney has been pretty quiet so far concerning details for the anniversary — until now! We now have a first look at the changes coming to ALL FOUR park icons in Disney World for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”
We knew Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom got her fancy pink and blue makeover ahead of the anniversary last year, but now we know that’s not all! Similar to the makeover Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle received for the Diamond Anniversary a few years back, Cinderella Castle will be getting a glow up! Again!
The castle will be decorated with what appears to be lavish gold decor! Interestingly, this will all BEGIN happening on October 1st and last for about 18 months, so don’t expect to walk into Magic Kingdom on the anniversary and see Cindy all decked out just yet. and Cinderella Castle isn’t the ONLY park icon getting in on the fun.
ALL OF THEM are getting mini-transformations, making them, as Disney calls them, the “Beacons of Magic.” EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth will get a new lighting scheme that will be permanent beyond the anniversary celebration.
The Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom will see animated fireflies and other nighttime lighting magic for the celebration.
Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also get a nighttime look with it “coming to life” for guests.
If you’re wondering what Disney is calling this particular style they’re using for the 50th — the shimmery, iridescent look we’ve seen already in things like the Magic Kingdom entrance sign — it’s called EARidescence!
This is just the start of Disney’s announcements concerning their big anni. We expect more information will continue to come out as we get closer to the big day. Check back with DFB for ALL your “World’s Most Magical Celebration” news!

I don’t understand the “Beacons of Magic!” Makes no sense, the parks are not even open at night.
Does this mean the parks and these buildings will be under construction (as in scaffolding everywhere) when I visit in September 2021????
From OH, Buckeye Country. Three trips planned between July 2021 to January 2022.. Need an annual pass to make it all happen. Please bring the annual pass back.
Really not interested in Disneys Grand Celebration Without all Entertainment Shows, and Festivities being Fully OPEN. Also, Disney should take a lesson from Triple D’s Food offerings and UP there Game on Dining Options IMHO
Any idea if 50th anniversary merch will be available ahead of the anniversary date? My family and I will be at Disney World 2 weeks before the anniversary date and would love to buy some 50th anniversary merch while we are there.
LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND I CANT WAIT TO BE ABLE TO GET DOWN THERE TOSEE IT. I JUST CAN’T GET INTO THE FACT THAT THE TOWER OF TERROR IS THE ICON FOR HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS. BIGGEST MISTAKE DISNEY EVERY DID WAS TAKING AWAY THE ICONIC HAT. CAN’T WAIT TO TAKE IN ALL FOR THE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS.
Laura, I would think so, and we will report what we’re seeing.
Heidi, we’ll have to wait and see what everything looks like when September rolls around. We will report!
I was at Disney World the year you opened. I was 15 years old. I turn 65 this year and am looking forward to this 50th celebration.
I agree with Capt. Jack I plan to come in 2022 but not if all entertanement is not restored Not worth the trip
Although I love the castle in its traditional beautiful gray stone, all of the other sparklie, shimmery ideas look wonderful. I especially like the idea of the fireflies in the tree of life!
