The global health pandemic has created a lot of challenges for the travel industry over the past year, particularly for the cruise industry.

Disney Magic
Take Disney Cruise Line — it’s been OVER a year since its last sailing. The CDC continues to extend no-sail regulations, and Disney has previously said that it believes cruises will be the last arm of its business to return.
However, it seems things could be changing, at least some. One cruise line, Royal Caribbean, plans to set sail again as early as June. An official statement on the Royal Caribbean website says: “Travelers looking ahead to their summer vacations can book their roundtrip cruise as soon as Wednesday, March 24 and set sail starting June 12.”

The website also indicated that new itineraries departing through August will sail with vaccinated crews, and only fully vaccinated guests — as well as those under age 18 with negative COVID-19 tests — will be allowed to board.

Will Disney set sail again this year?
The Royal Caribbean website also notes that it will sail with fewer guests onboard. The website notes that they will be sailing with no more than 50% of their usual capacity. In terms of masks, the Royal Caribbean website currently notes that guests should wear masks in nearly all public settings but there will be exceptions like dining venues and activities that might cause the mask to become wet.
Celebrity Cruises, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean, also plans to resume sailings in June. Earlier this month, Disney suggested that it has hopes of resuming operations in the fall. Disney has also been busy with the construction of a new ship in its line, the Wish.
