When Disney World reopened last year, a lot had changed due to health and safety guidelines.
And one of the things that changed was Disney temporarily suspending its nighttime entertainment, which means guests haven’t seen a fireworks show in the parks in over a year, save for some occasional fireworks testing. But we’re starting to see some indications that we might see fireworks return in some capacity to the parks soon!
Not only have we been following the construction progress of Harmonious, EPCOT’s upcoming nighttime show, but we also previously saw a Disney job listing for a Principal Fireworks Designer. Well, we have now noticed ANOTHER job listing for a Fireworks and Special Effects Designer!
The job summary reads: “The Fireworks & Special Effects Designer develops/executes pyrotechnic and special effects designs for live shows across property, including Parks, Resorts, Special Events, and Disney Cruise Line.” Other responsibilities include ordering pyrotechnic products, supervising crews, and participating in creative development, and more.
In addition, the position involves developing and executing special effects and pyrotechnic designs for live shows, providing evaluations of existing shows, providing proper documentation of “all live show effects plots” at Disney World, developing and providing input with special effects budgets, and more!
If you or anyone you know is interested in the position, some of the requirements include three years of experience in the entertainment industry with live shows, as well as a working knowledge of current industry and technology standards in fireworks and special effects. Disney’s preferred qualifications, though, mention those who have previously worked for the company in live show development. You can read the full job description and apply here.
Disney has not yet released any details about when fireworks might return to the parks, but it does seem like the company is preparing to bring them back soon with these most recent job listings. We’ll continue to follow the situation and let you know what we find out!

I was anticipating news on fireworks and parades and then they cancelled Mickey’s Not So Scary, an event largely built around fireworks, parades and stage shows. Now I’m not so optimistic.
Hopefully it’s the logistics of ordering the candy or other aspects of MNSSHP that led to the (early?) call to cancel but from the early descriptions of the Boo Bash it seems like social distancing and dispersed crowds were a primary consideration.

We experienced Happily Ever After the day before the parks closed in March, 2020. Wish we had stayed the extra day, but little did we know the closing would be for 4 months, and the extent of the pandemic’s reaches. We have been back in July and October – had a great time, but missing the ‘closing acts’ for sure!

I doubt it will be soon. Sounds like the former CM have gotten jobs elsewhere and now Disney needs to hire new staff. Who will then have to get up to speed on the current show.
I put the timeline at least 3 months out before fireworks return.

It may be that seasoned cast members who have been payed off may have gotten used to the generous incentives by the American people and enjoyed the time off. Now it seems as though they may be retiring out and Disney is caught with a case of the shorts.

It would be great if Disney did more normal things in time fire works people would be excited to see again . If the crowds get bigger it would be harder to do . If they had a special event it could happen but it would not make enough money for Disney to do it . But there is hope on the way things could get better and then it could happen.
