Hey friends, it’s DFB here with breaking news: Florida is hot!
Yeah, we know that the fact that Florida is sweltering in the summer isn’t exactly new information, but it’s something that we all need to be reminded of before those months roll around. It rains nearly every day of the summertime and, many days, the heat index soars into the triple digits, which may not be something that you’re prepared for if you’re traveling from outside the south. So how do you survive? How do you make sure you’re not miserable all day long? We’re sharing our tricks with you today!
Cooling Towels
If you want an easy, portable, cost-effective way to beat the heat, you’re going to want to invest in some cooling towels. These little doodads are great — you just wet them, wring them out, hang them on your neck, and voila…you’re feeling better already!
You can sometimes buy them at Disney World (when they’re in stock), but they’re going to be more expensive than you would get at home or online (no surprise there!). We’ve also seen supply issues impact things like misting fans in the past, so you’ll want to buy these ahead of time and not leave it to chance!
We found a pack of four on Amazon for $18.99 which is perfect for the whole family! These come in four different colors, have individual bags with carabiner clips for easy storage, and have nearly a 5-star rating.
Get you a couple of these and you’ll be set — even on the hottest of days.

Handheld Fans
Similar to the cooling towels, these are great for cutting the heat and helping you cool off! Handheld fans come in a variety of types, including those that clip onto strollers or have misting features. For some, they’re pretty much a necessity if you’re standing outside in a long queue!
This fan that we found has nearly 5 stars with over 20,000 ratings online. It has a handle that can fold up into a stand to sit on a desk or table, and it’s rechargeable with a USB! You can buy it now through Amazon Prime for $12.74.Â
Combine this fan with the cooling towel, and you’ll feel like you’re inside in the AC in no time!

Water Bottles
You know what’s one of the most important things to remember during the summer at Disney World? STAY HYDRATED! Dehydration is a pretty quick way to become miserable in the heat, but there’s a solution. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages into the parks, so you can stash some bottles of water in your bag if you like. We also highly recommend packing a water bottle to refill throughout the day! Why? Simple — FREE WATER. (How many things in Disney World are legit free??)
There’s an insulated bottle that we found on Amazon with great ratings and three different lids so you can put it together whichever way is convenient! It comes in 6 sizes and a variety of colors, so you can customize them for each person in your family. Order it now for $23.95!
If you want something a bit more Disney, then make sure to check out our collection of Disney-themed bottles on the DFB store!

Hair Ties/Scrunchies
For ladies or the longer-haired gents, we get it. You get ready in the morning. You lookin’ good. Then a couple hours later your hair is a sweaty mop you’re seriously contemplating shaving off while in line in Magic Kingdom. 😂 In the morning, it may feel like a good day to wear your hair down, but by the time the hot and sticky afternoon rolls around, you’ll want your hair off your neck. What’s a stylish and practical way to fix that? Disney scrunchies!
We found two sets of scrunchies on shopDisney that are perfect for your summer vacation. You can pick up the Mickey Mouse and Friends Hair Scrunchie Set or the Minnie Mouse Hair Scrunchie Set for $14.99 each. Even if they’re not in your hair, these would be really cute as an accessory on your wrist!
And you know what else scrunchies are perfect for? Putting your hair up so that it doesn’t get ridiculously tangled while you’re enjoying the faster rides! Fighting with tangled, wind-blown hair each night? No good.

Hats
Hats are an easy way to keep the sun both out of your eyes and off your face. And if you’re not a “Minnie ear person” then they’re a great way to rep a little extra Disney with a classic accessory!
Two fun Disney hats online right now are the Orange Bird Baseball Cap for Adults (we love the retro look!) and the Minnie Mouse Ears Baseball Cap for Adults (it mixes the best of both worlds — Minnie ears AND caps). Both practical, both stylish, both will match a ton of outfits!
And ya know what’s great about hats? You don’t even have to do your hair. 😉

Sunglasses
And speaking of sun protection, you gotta look out for your eyes too! Did we mention how insanely bright the sun is on a summer day in Florida?
We found two pairs of sunglasses online that we had to share! There’s this pair on Amazon with great ratings and a pretty straightforward look for $14.99 (sometimes it’s also on sale!). Or, you could go with this red and white polka-dotted pair for $12.99 if you like that Minnie style!
Either way, you may not want to bring the most expensive sunglasses you own to Disney. Believe us, it’s really easy to lose things in the parks!

Chafing Prevention
Last but not least, let’s talk about something that may be a tad uncomfortable both physically AND to speak about — chafing. When you’re hot and sweaty, it happens. BUT, it doesn’t need to make you miserable in Disney World!
If you’re wearing a dress to the parks, a pair of slip shorts is a MUST. Check out this pair from Amazon for $13.99. And no matter what you’re wearing, we definitely recommend investing in a chafing stick. It’s basically like a stick of deodorant but instead of deodorant, it’s silky smooth chafing protection you can apply on the go. The brand of choice for our team tends to be MegaBabe — it works like a charm!
Get these products and you won’t be waddling uncomfortably at the end of the day…that’ll make you miserable real fast!

Misting fans work really great for me as I’m heat sensitive, but I’m going to invest in cooling towels as well. They seem like they would be very effective.
