Even in the most magical place on earth, things can go awry!
Attractions can malfunction, equipment can break, and the occasional pileup can happen, too! On a recent trip to the Magic Kingdom, we noticed that there was something going on over at a popular Tomorrowland attraction and decided to investigate. Let’s see what we could find!
The Tomorrowland Speedway is a popular attraction for both adults and kids alike! You can drive your own race car while hearing the sounds (and smelling the smells) of a real race track.
We were strolling through the park today when we noticed one of the Tomorrowland Speedway cars was not moving, and cars were starting to pile up behind it!
As we got closer, it looked like the guests in the stopped car were getting out after smoke was spotted coming out of their car — a Cast Member came over to speak with the guests as additional Cast Members began instructing the remaining guests to pull their cars up behind one another.
Shortly after, guests were instructed to evacuate their ride vehicle and follow Cast Members to the exit.

After all guests were evacuated safely, we checked the My Disney Experience app and sure enough — the Tomorrowland Speedway was listed as “temporarily closed.”
If you’re ever on a ride that malfunctions, be sure to wait for instruction from Cast Members as they are trained to keep you safe. For the latest Disney news and updates, be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!

Don’t understand. It’s Tomorrowland and with everything going electric now a days. Why are we still using gas powered go carts…needs to be upgraded. ..

It’s amazing how long Disney ignores updating an attraction the uses horribly inefficient gasoline engines. It never fit Tomorrowland at any point in time. An easy overlay would be Sugar Rush from Wreck It Ralph with Vanellope. We all know that Disney wants to inject IP everywhere that is possible. The cars could then transition to electric. They spent a a fortune in time and financial resources to build Tron right next door, but continue to let an attraction like this operate without doing any updates.
