Okay, so booze and ice cream should be a match made in heaven, right?
We’ve had a lot of delicious ice cream treats with alcohol, including boozy milkshakes, boozy Dole Whips, and ice cream martinis! We’ve enjoyed most of those treats…until now. 😬 We checked out some NEW boozy drinks at Disneyland that seemed promising, and one of them really delivered! But in the end, one of those drinks turned out to be very disappointing.
Okay, so we headed on over to Disney California Adventure to pop into Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream. There are a few new drinks on the menu, including the Port Wine Pourover for $12.50. This is a Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port Wine poured over your choice of ice cream flavor. Two great things — wine and ice cream — mixed together? Sign us up!
But…well, our reporter found the port wine to be very bitter. Yes, we know, a lot of red wines come across that way (it IS an acquired taste). However, we were hoping the ice cream would balance that out a bit. Instead, the wine just overpowered all the flavors. So we found a wine and ice cream snack that just didn’t work for us.
We’ve got some good news, though, to make up for that! The new seasonal drink in this spot, the Mangonada, was MUCH better. It’s made with two scoops of Mango Sorbet, layered with Tamarind Chamoy and Fresh Mango Chunks, and has a Chile-Lime Seasoning Rim for $7.99. Now, THIS was a refreshing drink. The beer taste nearly disappears beneath the mango sorbet, so you just get a nice, cool mango drink.
We also loved the addition of the Tamarind Chamoy, so you get a tart and sour twist to each sip. In our opinion, this is THE perfect drink for a hot California day!
So our suggestion is to get the Mangonada and skip the Port Wine Pourover if you happen to find yourself at Clarabelle’s and want something delicious and refreshing. We’ll keep trying all the new treats and drinks at Disneyland AND Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more reviews!
Here’s why we’re willing to pay $13 for BREAD in Disney World.
