If you’ve been following along with us today, you know that Disney World’s 50th anniversary is officially underway and there’s a WHOLE LOT of food to try as part of the festivities!

It’s the BIG day!
There are actually OVER 150 new treats coming to Disney World to celebrate the big anniversary, including a twist on a classic Mickey ice cream bar, a sundae with a WHOLE Mickey pretzel on top, and Haunted Mansion-themed treats. Today we made our way to try one new snack that features a twist on one of the most iconic Disney snacks ever: the Dole Whip!
For this Dole Whip concoction, you’ll want to head to Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. That’s where you’ll find the Lion’s Lair!

Welcome to the Lion’s Lair
This snack features Dole Whip Pineapple topped with a sour-apple flavored syrup and Parrot Bay Coconut Rum (yep, there’s booze in this one!) and it is priced at $10. At least in our opinion, $10 is actually a pretty decent price for a boozy drink at Disney World. And it looks like a LOT of fun. BUT…how does it taste?

Lion’s Lair
Well, this drink put a permanent pucker on our face (okay, it wasn’t permanent, but you get the idea) because it was SUPER SOUR! Essentially, it tasted like we were drinking a sour apple Jolly Rancher. That sour apple flavor really overpowers the whole thing.
If you like super tart treats, especially sour apple Jolly Ranchers, this might be JUST the drink you’ve been looking for. The drink was very sour and very sugary — we might as well have been drinking candy — and well, that may not be a bad thing if you love sour candy! If you like that flavor profile and you’re looking for a boozy Dole Whip to sip on while you enjoy the new KiteTails show or hunt for golden statues, this might be a great option.

SOUR
We did LOVE the Dole Whip and rum in it, and the bright colors made this treat look particularly fun (always a good thing if you’re looking for something to place on your Instagram feed). But, it was just too sour for our taste. If you dislike sour apple and super sweet drinks (seriously, we felt like we could get a cavity with just 1 sip!), you’ll probably want to grab a different Dole Whip treat while in the parks.
