There has been SO MUCH Disney holiday news lately, and it’s not over!
We just learned that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is returning to Magic Kingdom in Disney World, the start date for Festival of the Holidays at EPCOT, which holiday festivities are returning to the parks, when a holiday overlay is coming to Disneyland, and more. But, the news isn’t done yet, because Disney just gave a FIRST LOOK at a very special holly jolly series coming to Disney+ later this year!
Earlier this year, we found out that Disney+ would be making a limited series based off of The Santa Clause movies, and now, we have our first look at the show! The official name of the series is The Santa Clauses and Disney shared a photo with the whole cast!
Time Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell are reprising their roles as Santa Claus (Scott Calvin) and Mrs. Claus (Carol), respectively. Then, there are some newcomers in the series — Austin Kane and Elizabeth Allen-Dick will play the roles of Cal and Sandra, the two children of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Elizabeth is actually Tim Allen’s daughter in real life!
Kal Penn will be joining the series as well to play Simon Choski, a single father, game inventor, and product developer “whose visit to the North Pole makes a big impact on the direction of his life.” He will be joined by Rupali Redd playing the role of Grace, his daughter “with a love for Santa and all things Christmas,” Disney said.
There will also be some new cast playing elves in the series! Devin Bright will be Noel, Santa’s trusted right-hand elf, along with Matilda Lawler as Betty, Santa’s demanding Chief of Staff and job-oriented Elf.
The series is set some time after the events of The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and picks up with Scott Calvin about to turn 65-years-old, realizing he can’t be Santa forever. As he starts to lose his Santa magic, he sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the North Pole.
Disney hasn’t given an official release date for the series, but says it will be streaming soon! We’ll keep you updated with any news we hear about the series, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
