Expedition Everest is the TALLEST ride at Disney World. Yep, at 199.5 feet, it’s slightly taller than the Tower of Terror.
If you’re a little anxious about riding roller coasters in Disney World, you might be wondering how fast this roller coaster — and others — go.
So, let’s take a look!
Expedition Everest is a thrilling roller coaster that speeds through the Himalayas — and you’ll encounter the infamous Yeti! This attraction is located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. This coaster has a height requirement of 44 inches.
Expedition Everest opened in April 2006, and at the time, it was the most expensive roller coaster ever built — at a cost of an estimated $100 million. Its top speed is 50 miles per hour. By comparison, the top speed for the classic Disney roller coaster Space Mountain is just 27 miles per hour, and the top speed for Disney’s newest roller coaster, TRON Lightcycle / Run, is just under 60 miles per hour.
The restraint system for this ride is a lap bar. I tend to determine — at least partially — the intensity of a ride by how “serious” the restraint system is, and a lap bar on my scale would be pretty tame. The ride is intense — especially in one part where it comes to an abrupt stop and then speeds backwards down a hill, but there are no inversions or anything close to that if that’s where your fear of a roller coaster is based.
So, there you have it — the speed of Expedition Everest and some more facts about the ride! What else do you want to know about this Animal Kingdom roller coaster? Let us know in the comments, and keep following DFB for more Disney news.
