Some big changes are coming to Disney World in 2024!
From virtual queue changes to grand openings and special events, 2024 is going to look a lot different than 2023 at Disney World. In case you forgot, we’re here to remind you of perhaps the biggest change announced — the park pass system is getting a complete overhaul in January!
Beginning January 9th, 2024, parks will NO LONGER REQUIRE reservations (for date-based tickets). Additionally, a couple more changes will be implemented that same day!
Since the parks reopened at Disney World in 2020, online reservations were required to visit your desired park for the day. That removed any ability to adjust on the fly or simply wing it. It also made park hopping harder (something we’ll get to later on). The reservation system could also be confusing at times and if not done properly, could ruin your vacation. Fortunately, that’s about to be in the past and the Disney World parks are about to revert to something closer to the pre-pandemic era.
Another change coming is the return to normalcy for park hopping. When park hopping returned in 2021, the ticket add-on was only valid after 2PM each day. That restriction will be lifted on January 9th. Per Disney, “On days when theme park reservations are required for Annual Passholders and certain non-dated tickets, Passholders and guests will be able to take advantage of the updates to Park Hopper access after visiting their first park.” While Annual Passholders will still need reservations on select days, they will still be able to park hop and visit the parks WITHOUT a reservation on “Good to Go” days.
Finally, the Dining Plan is coming back in 2024, also on the 9th! Two plans will be made available as optional add-ons to a Disney World Vacation Package. These plans allow you to go to a restaurant that accepts the Disney Dining Plan and use your MagicBand, Key to the World card, or Disney MagicMobile pass as a credit card. The plans include the Standard Disney Dining Plan and the Quick Service Disney Dining Plan.
We’re super excited for all of these changes and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop on anything and everything Walt Disney World, so stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest!
