Traveling is tough enough — don’t let this potential passport issue trip you up!
Here at DFB, we try to get you the best tips and advice when it comes to your travels to and from the Disney Parks. That includes finding cheap airfare and keeping you in the know about travel info even we wish we didn’t know.  In our efforts to keep you up-to-date on all things travel, we came across an issue that could plague you on your next Disney trip — especially if you’re traveling internationally. Right now, some American passports are being rejected, even if they’re still valid.
According to CNBC, despite the passport renewal process returning to normal after a rocky 2023, some travelers with American passports that are close to expiring (but haven’t expired yet) are still being turned away from other countries.
Some countries, especially several in Europe, require American passports to be valid for 90 days BEYOND the end of your trip. This includes France, so if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Paris any time soon, keep this fact in mind.
Many Asian countries also require at least six months of validity for permission to enter, per the U.S. Department of State. Some places like Hong Kong require one month, so if you’re traveling to Tokyo Disney, Shanghai Disney, or Hong Kong Disneyland, you should become familiar with their respective country’s passport rules before you go.
According to the State Department, border officials will assume you will use the full allotment of your no-visa days. This is a way for country governments to avoid any passport and visa complications. Speaking of visas, certain countries are also requiring Americans to purchase visas for entry. All of this info and the rules of specific countries can be found on the U.S. Department of State website (check under the “Learn About Your Destination” section!).
As is the case with planning a Disney World vacation, the best advice you can get regarding the matter is to plan well in advance. Apply for a new passport around a year before it expires. This also helps you avoid a $60 expedited passport processing fee. If you’re about to buy your first passport, the State Department can also help you — just check their website for more details!
