Even when you’re in the Most Magical Place on Earth, things can still go wrong. And, when it happens to you — well, it’s a pretty quick way to ruin a trip.
From missed flights and reservations to closed attractions and more, it’s always best to expect the unexpected in the parks. If you’re prone to loving water rides or those that can potentially get you wet (looking at you, Pirates of the Caribbean), then you’ve likely been faced with having a wet phone. No problem, right? Just stick it in some rice. Here’s why you might not actually want to do that!
Chances are you’ve probably heard that if your phone gets wet, you should put it in rice. Well, according to what Apple shared with USA Today about iPhones in particular, that might not actually be the best option. The site reads: “Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.” We’re no experts, but we’d imagine this is likely the case with all smartphones.
So if your iPhone gets wet, here’s what Apple suggests you do:
- Unplug the cable from your phone and unplug the other end from the power adaptor. Don’t plug it in again until both your phone and cable are dry.
- Gently tap your phone against your hand with the connector facing down. This will help remove excess liquid. Then leave your phone in a dry area.
- After 30 minutes, try charging the phone.
- If you get an alert, leave your phone in a dry area for up to a day and then try to charge it again.
- If your phone seems dry, but still won’t charge, unplug the cable from the adaptor and the adaptor from the wall and then connect everything again.
But, if you’re really worried about your phone getting wet when you’re in the parks, you can always opt for a waterproof lanyard like this 3-pack!
Just stick your phone in the bag and it should keep it mostly dry from splashes!
Of course, you can always opt for a waterproof phone case like this one, too.
That way, you won’t have to fumble with putting your phone into any other contraption since it’s already in one!
