It’s no secret that we love Disney World Cast Members!
Cast Members are trained to help you stay safe, and to create the magic that keeps us coming back to Disney World. They are expected to adhere to a strict set of rules while they’re on the job! Lots of those rules are related to safety, but there are many more that are all about keeping Disney World the magical environment that it is — and keeping us immersed in it! That said, there’s this one thing you’ll NEVER see a Cast Member do in Disney World!
We have several former Disney World Cast Members on the DFB Team, and they’ve shared with us lots of the secrets they’ve learned (like what a “Code A” stands for!), and the rules they have to follow (they’re not all what you think!).
To keep us immersed in the magic, one thing they have to be careful about is when, where, and how they wear their uniforms. They MUST have a name tag on in the parks (and yes, that means if they forgot theirs they have to sport another name that day from a back-up name tag stash). They must wear all the pieces of their uniform — yet, they cannot wear their uniform when getting lunch in the parks or in public when they are not at work.
Speaking of name tags, Cast Members also have an ID card they refer to as a “blue ID.” And they are forbidden from having that ID out — especially when they are visiting the parks like the rest of us during their time off!
So while Cast Members get into the parks for free — and some go to the parks frequently during their time off — you won’t see them flashing their ID anywhere to show that they are cast members. The rule is that they must keep it hidden!Â
One rule we try to follow about Cast Members in the parks is giving them compliments when they give us great service. Did you know that you can compliment a Cast Member through the Disney World app?
It’s simple to do, and can help them earn recognition from their supervisors. Just go to the cast compliment section, and fill out the form. It’ll ask for the cast member’s name, what date you interacted with them, where you interacted with them, and some details about why you’re leaving the compliment. It’s a great way to pause quickly in your Disney World day and say thanks to some of the folks who brave the heat, the crowds, and pay attention to all kinds of details to make Disney World magic for us every day!

I used the cast member compliment a bunch during our vacation! For example, there was an extremely nice lady by the bookshelf at the Skipper Canteen who entertained my kids for like 15 minutes as they asked her endless questions about all the books. She was so sweet! I wish I could have done more.

I have given several compliments to CMs. One is Mike, a skipper on the boats between Disney Springs and Port Orleans resorts. The first time we rode with him he was asking a little girl all sorts of questions about princesses and then on our second trip he had us all singing Christmas songs. He is a really great skipper who deserves all the compliments!
