If you’ve flown or plan on flying to or from Orlando International Airport (MCO) today, chances are you could be in for a rough experience.
Planning a trip to Disney World is complicated enough without factoring in flight issues — but that’s exactly what’s occurred today, July 11th, 2024. Flight delays and cancellations have plagued MCO all day, keeping up with a recent trend of flight complications at the airport. Let’s get into what you need to know about today’s delays and cancellations.
Via flight tracker FlightAware, Orlando International Airport has experienced over 200 flight delays today, July 11th, with seven (7) canceled flights on the day, as well.
Several factors could be causing the delays, including storms around the country. MCO’s FAA status is still listed as “Normal” but delays have been noted in gate holds and taxi delays lasting 15 minutes or less for departures. Additionally, arrival delays in the form of airborne delays of 15 minutes or less have also been reported.
As of this writing, 18 airlines have been affected by delays or cancellations. Southwest has had at least 67 flights (23% of its itineraries) delayed today, while Spirit has had at least 38 flights (29%) delayed. JetBlue has had 18 flights (15%) delayed, and Delta has had 19 (14%) delayed. Frontier also stands out with 19 (14%) delays and United has had 13 (18%) delays. Delays haven’t slowed and numbers are expected to increase as the day progresses.
As far as cancellations, JetBlue has been the most affected, canceling three flights. Alaska Airlines has had to cancel two flights and Spirit and Air Canada Rouge have each had to cancel one. Once again, those numbers could increase as the day progresses so stay vigilant if you are flying to or from Orlando today.
