Hurricane season in Florida is no joke.
Rain is expected during a Disney World day almost all throughout the year because that’s just part of Florida’s climate! However, hurricane season brings something else entirely into the mix — tropical storms and hurricanes can seemingly come out of nowhere, and they can do so over and over again. We just got past Hurricane Debby, and now there’s another storm brewing in the sea that could bring another round to Floridians.
Experts are now reporting that there’s a new storm system making its way towards the Caribbean, and eventually Florida. While it hasn’t hit tropical storm or tropical depression status yet, the National Hurricane Center is bumping up the odds.
NEW: Becoming likely they'll be a tropical depression or tropical storm in the days ahead, NHC continues to bump up the odds. First up is the Caribbean. Next name is #Ernesto. I'll keep you updated on @WINKNews pic.twitter.com/Ohp9mFPvLc

It’s now 70% likely that this storm will become a tropical storm or depression in the coming days. The next name on the list is Ernesto, so if it does reach Tropical Storm/Depression status, it will be named as such.
The good news is that being in Disney World is one of the safest places you can be during a hurricane! The resort was built knowing the type of severe weather Florida can commonly see, and it was all built to withstand such storms. Now, that doesn’t mean walking around the parks during a tropical storm or hurricane won’t come with it’s challenges, per say, since you’ll likely be soaking wet (even wearing a poncho) and all outdoor attractions will likely be closed, but crowds will be pretty low!
So if your main goal is low crowds, then head on into the parks no matter how rainy it is! But be prepared for an…interesting day, to say the least! If getting wet and sloshing around the parks isn’t worth it, no matter how low the crowds are, you can also check out the indoor amenities at the different Disney World hotels. Resort hopping may also get you a little wet, especially if you need to be outside waiting for buses, but it’s a great way to still make the most of your Disney World day and explore some different hotels!
Be sure to keep an eye on an up-to-the-minute weather app, such as WeatherBug, to see how the storm is progressing in real time. It’s possible that there will be pockets of no rain during the day that you could head into the parks for some fun! And that goes for all rain and thunderstorms, not just hurricanes and tropical storms.
We will be monitoring the storm and sharing the important updates as they come.
