It’s time for some Disney news!

Magic Kingdom
Disney World has been busy lately! Construction is happening around the parks, new shows are getting closer and closer to opening, and so much more. Disney World isn’t the only thing going through change though so let’s break down the three biggest Disney news stories of the week.
We’re starting off in Disney World with some big Animal Kingdom news! Animal Kingdom is experiencing some big changes with DinoLand U.S.A. closing in phases. While we are riding Dinosaur as often as we can this year, we forgot another Animal Kingdom attraction was headed for the grave too.

It’s Tough to be a Bug!
Disney announced It’s Tough To Be A Bug will close on March 17th, 2025, permanently. This closure is to make way for the new show, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether” which has a planned opening of Winter 2025.

A new show inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Zootopia” will debut next winter in Discovery Island at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
While we’re excited to see Juddy Hopps and Nick Wilde find a home in Animal Kingdom, we will certainly miss Flik and the gang! There’s nothing quite like getting sprayed with acid and bug spray before looking up and seeing black widow spiders dropping down onto you. While most parents (probably) won’t miss this one, we finally discovered just how tough it is to be a bug.

Next on our list is across the country over in Anaheim! Sadly this one is another permanent closure but it’s not an announcement, it’s a final goodbye. This week in Disney California Adventure, the Red Car Trolley is running its last route on Saturday, February 8th, 2025.

Red Car Trolley!
This iconic California Adventure attraction will be closed permanently starting on February 9th, 2025, to make way for some brand-new rides coming to the theme park. Red Car Trolley has been taking passengers on a battery-powered journey to various stops on Buena Vista Street, Carthay Circle, Hollywood Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard over the years and has been an iconic staple of the park. The closure is the result of the new Avengers Campus Expansion which is bringing two new rides to the land.

While we are excited about the new things coming, it doesn’t make letting go any easier! We will miss you Red Car Trolley!

Finally, this week was a big one for the Disney Company thanks to the latest earnings call to detail the first quarter of the fiscal year. The company shared loads of information including the fact that revenues for the company increased 5% for the first quarter of 2025 to $24.7 billion in Q1 2025 from $23.5 billion this time last year.

They also detailed streaming numbers noting that Disney+ had 178 million Core and Hulu subscriptions. On the theme park side of things, Disney shared that domestic earnings are up from $6,297 million in December 2023 to $6,432 million in December 2024 but noted the impact that Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton had on the parks and cruise line.

Disney Wish at Castaway Cay
The company shared tons more including numbers related to ESPN’s revenue and Moana 2‘s impact on sales and licensing income. While it might not be the most exciting news out there, it’s always interesting to see how the company moves forward and what impacts financial decisions relating to the company and the theme parks.
