Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been going through some changes lately, and we need to talk about one ride that’s been oddly hanging on.
With major projects like the Muppets Courtyard transformation into a Monsters, Inc. land and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s upcoming re-theme to a Muppets coaster, it seems like Disney is really ready to shake things up at Hollywood Studios. But that leaves us wondering – what about Star Tours? Could it be the next ride to go?
Star Tours has always been a bit of an oddity when you think about it. When it first opened back it 1989, it was a groundbreaking motion simulator that let guests experience the world of Star Wars, and guess what? Back then, Galaxy’s Edge wasn’t even a thought.
Disney placed Star Tours in the Echo Lake area of the park, and while it made sense at the time, now it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s because out of every other Star Wars-related experience in Hollywood Studios, it isn’t part of Galaxy’s Edge – it’s like it’s not even in the same zip code.
This separation does makes Star Tours feel a little out of place. It also doesn’t help that while Galaxy’s Edge fully immerses guests in the world of Batuu, Star Tours is still hanging on to that classic, pre-Galaxy’s Edge era of Star Wars. In addition to that, Galaxy’s Edge is already home to two major rides – Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance, which means it’s not like the park is lacking in Star Wars attractions.
So what does that mean for the future of Star Tours? Well, it’s hard to say, but with all the changes happening at Hollywood Studios, it wouldn’t be shocking if Disney eventually decided to phase it out. We’ve already seen the park slowly shift its focus, and if Star Tours doesn’t fit with the rest of the park’s vision, it could be on the chopping block.
Of course, Disney could also choose to update it rather than remove it. Star Tours has already gone through multiple changes over the years, including one in 2024, adding new scenes to keep up with the latest Star Wars movies. With the franchise continuing to grow, it’s always possible that Disney might decide to give the ride another refresh instead of getting rid of it entirely. But is that enough to justify keeping it around if it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the park?
One of the biggest questions is, “If Star Tours does go away, what would replace it?” Could we see a new IP take over? Maybe an expansion of another popular franchise? At the moment, the Echo Lake area of Hollywood Studios is kind of feeling a little scattered, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney had plans to re-theme that entire space, and with the way things are going, anything feels possible.
For now, though, Star Tours is still operating as usual, and Disney hasn’t given any official word on its fate. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that when big changes start happening around a ride, it’s usually a sign that something could be coming. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for this classic attraction.
In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest from Disney.

Noooooooooo. I love Star Tours as an experience! Additionally, I just love that there is almost always something (inside and cool) that you can hop on without much wait. It would be a shame for it to go!
The Echo Lake area is fine as is….the area that needs attention is Animation Courtyard. That would have been a great place for Monsters, Inc since it’s right next to TSL.
Star Tours may not be in the right location but to remove it entirely would be a mistake. This is a great ride that adds more diversity to the theme it represents. Disney should move it to the Glaxy’s Edge area .
They can’t possibly get rid of star tours ,I love it ,it’s one ride you can always get on with out to much of a wait
I love Star Tours- and I truly don’t think it is too out of place. The theme and time period of the ride is Episodes 4, 5 + 6, vs Battu is 7, 8 + 9 with characters like Rey and Kylo wondering around. I really hope they don’t remove this ride- it is a treasure to the original films, and is always a trusted easy wait! Star Tours is very underrated <3
Personally I think Star Tours (before they added the recent abominations) was far better than anything in Galaxy’s Edge. Of course, I’ve been a Star Wars fan since 1977 and think Disney & Kennedy have destroyed it.
There r so many changes that has been done at Disney world it’s raking a way what Walt Disney created and that is a true shame and who can afford to go there anymore we have had annuals for meant years and stopped going and we live out of state we Dajae to pay to get n attractions faster that is plane greed and Rhys is not what Walt Disney created the thoughtless money grabbers at the top tier only care about lining their pockets
Yes I made some errors n my typing but u get what I’m saying the money grabbing is part of why we stopped going and then the changes n the attractions it sounds like universal studios and we have never had interest n going there and still don’t the pixie dust is not there anymore and we started going there when it was only the magic kingdom and that was when it was Walt Disneys dream and it started with a mouse
