We are seeing Disney World undergo some major construction over the next few years, including updated rides and new lands.

Cinderella’s Castle
In 2025, there will be several rides that are seeing a refurbishment this year at Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently receiving an overhaul and is scheduled to reopen in 2026. Astro Orbiter also closed earlier this year and is set to reopen this summer. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has recently been added to that list as well so here is what we know about this ride update.
1. New Ride Vehicles
The ride vehicles on Space Ranger Spin are getting an upgrade with a new design. This new design is inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear himself. Each vehicle will also have video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features. Galactic Heroes, get ready to score those points!

2. New Scene and New Character
We will also be introduced to an all-new character. “Buddy” is a friendly robot, and he will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. During this new scene, you will be able to see some of the new, interactive target features before starting your mission.

3. New Technology
If you’ve gone on this ride before, you’ll remember the Z targets throughout the attraction. The static targets found in the attraction today will be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit. No more guessing if you hit the target you are aiming for!

4. New Blasters
The ride vehicles will also have new blasters. These will be handheld, meaning that you’ll be able to aim and shoot easily. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors, one for each guest in the vehicle.

To prepare for these changes, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close in August and reopen sometime in 2026. We are excited to see these changes come to life when Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin reopens.
