A big holiday is coming up soon — and we’re looking forward to seeing how Disney World celebrates.
Yes, the 4th of July is right around the corner, and, of course, the big thing that EVERYONE uses to celebrate is fireworks. Now, of course, there are special fireworks in Magic Kingdom for the big day, but if you’ll be visiting Orlando or live in the city, there are some new fireworks rules you need to be aware of this year.
According to The Orlando Sentinel, new fireworks restrictions are on the way for Orange County after citizens of the Waterfront Estates neighborhood complained about loudly exploding mortars being fired nearby. The new rules were recently adopted by Orange County Commissioners and will do what they can to discourage offenders by making it easier to ID and punish them. The law is expected to go into effect before the 4th of July, a day that the state of Florida allows the public to shoot fireworks.
The county ordinance concerning fireworks will now require a $100 permit for “public display of fireworks or pyrotechnics.” It also allows deputies to issue cease-and-desist orders if the ordinance is violated. The old rules required the deputy to witness the violation to issue a citation. Now, a video or citizen complaint will be accepted as evidence of rule violations.
Deputies can write a warning or citation with penalties escalating from $200 for a first offense, $400 for a second, and $500 for anything after that, plus a mandatory court appearance.
Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe has clarified that the new rules are intended to prevent behavior that infringes on the property rights of others and not on fireworks to celebrate a wedding or gender reveal.
Of course, this rule doesn’t impact the fireworks in Magic Kingdom, so you’ll be free to enjoy them as you’d like.
