Are y’all ready for a Hawaiian roller coaster ride…for a SECOND time?!

Disney just announced that the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is officially getting a SEQUEL! Yes, we know the movie just came out a month ago. No, this is not a joke. Let’s take a look at all the details!

On May 23rd, just a little over a month ago, Disney released its live-action version of the beloved Disney animated film, Lilo & Stitch. The movie was a huge success! It has been well received by fans, as evidenced by the movie’s global box office success, which has generated over $900 million and counting.

Now, Disney has officially announced that Lilo & Stitch 2 will be coming, too. This is no surprise, considering the amount of money the first movie has made. So, why did the announcement come out today? Well, it’s “626 Day” (June 26th — 6/26) — and Disney had to drop big news during the global celebration of the beloved blue alien. Walt Disney Studios took to X (Twitter) to make the big announcement — showing Stitch playfully wreaking havoc across The Walt Disney Studios lot!

Last month, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman stated, “The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it.”

Disney has a few different routes it can take for the sequel! They could base it on Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, or there is Leroy and Stitch. Then there’s the option to go with a completely original story. It’ll be interesting to see what Disney ultimately chooses to do with the story and characters.
