A popular Disney World ride has finally made its return! We don’t want to hear that you didn’t notice it was gone, WE NOTICED!

Magic Kingdom
The Magic Kingdom is sort of looking like itself again (hurry up, Big Thunder), as a long-awaited ride has finally reopened! In a year that has been faced with Disney World ride closures, we needed this.
After an over five-month waiting period, Astro Orbiter is back! The ride saw a complete and total refurbishment — as almost every piece of the attraction was taken down, repainted, and reinstalled. We are so ready for this ride to be back in Tomorrowland.
Now, fans of the ride that takes you up into the stars can enjoy it once again. It’s honestly just nice to open up the My Disney Experience app and see that it has a posted wait time. It’s a good thing we had to build our patience for this ride, because the waiting period at Magic Kingdom is about to go up!
Hello, Astro Orbiter, goodbye Tom Sawyer Island! Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square River Boat are permanently closing, and we’re very close to the date when we’ll have to say our goodbyes to them. Magic Kingdom is about to embark on a huge transformation. It’s all going to start with the closure of The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. This will happen on July 7th, making the last day of operation July 6th.
The closure is to make way for a new Cars-themed land! The new land is called Piston Peak, and is set to be like a National Park set in the world of Disney Pixar’s Cars. Disney will be completely reworking that Tom Sawyer area of Frontierland. The new land will offer an immersive and beautiful area filled with trees and water. It will also be home to two new rides!
Magic Kingdom’s construction and transformation don’t end there, as Disney Imagineering will also be bringing a Villains Land to the park. The land will have new attractions and will feature some of your favorite Disney villains, so get ready, you poor unfortunate souls. The area will be going behind Big Thunder, and we’re just WAITING to hear more news on it!
There’s a lot happening at the Magic Kingdom, and it’s honestly exciting to see it unfold. In the meantime, we’re going to celebrate the win that Astro Orbiter is up and running once again! Make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all the latest Disney news and updates.
