Disney World has just released the menu for a highly anticipated new lounge coming to Magic Kingdom, and we couldn’t help but notice something glaringly familiar!
I’ve been reporting on Disney World’s food for years and a visitor to its parks and restaurants even longer, and I’ve seen some downright bizarre food items. In between Disney World’s Halloween party exclusives and even throwing it back to Disney World’s 50th celebration, there are a few unique items I would have rather put out of sight and out of mind, but Disney just had to bring one of the weirdest back in a new life.
As I mentioned before, Disney just dropped the menu and prices for the upcoming pirate themed lounge in Magic Kingdom, The Beak and Barrel. Inside you’ll join up with a spirited pirate crew sipping on both alcoholic and non-spirited beverages and licking your fingers over some of their tasty-looking dishes. This new lounge has been under construction for a while and now we finally have an opening date!

Along with the lounge’s opening announcement, Disney also decided to let us know what will await us on the menu ahead of planning our visit and grabbing reservations. We combed through the menus excitedly “ooh-ing” at most of the things we spotted until we abruptly stopped and thought we heard a record scratch as we spotted IT.

What’s the “it” in question? A new snack coming to the lounge named the Kraken’s Catch. This cold salad is quite unique with octopus tentacles – yes, you heard that right – marinated in lemon and lime juice and paired with olives, bell peppers, avocado, and Piquillo pepper-almond foam.

While it might look pretty for the most part (especially that Piquillo pepper-almond foam), there’s one glaring addition to this salad that we can’t seem to shake our gaze. There’s a giant tentacle hanging out of the top of the drink.

Well, I guess it’s aptly named for its wacky ingredients, but the jury in our office is still out on just how it’s going to taste. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Disney World put literal tentacles in our food. A few years back, Be Our Guest offered a drink that had a similar tentacle garnish to it, and we’ve trauma-bonded with Disney fans who had the pleasure of seeing it ever since.

Squid’s Revenge!
All jokes aside, this is a unique spin to an offering that quite fits the theming and vibes you’re paying to see inside The Beak and Barrel, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t already discussing which of our brave souls gets to try it first!
Don’t go anywhere — you’ve got to come with us for a peek inside once The Beak and Barrel opens! Be sure to check back in with us soon for a FULL review of everything we tried at Disney World’s newest lounge.

I’m disappointed to see Octopus on a menu at a Disney park. With the intelligence they continually display, it feels barbaric to have one of their limbs hanging out the top of a dish like that. I understand visually it’s striking and on theme, but it comes from a source I’m not comfortable with. I have a feeling it won’t be a popular dish and will probably be phased out within a year.
There is nothing on that Beak and Barrel menu that I would pick up, never mind eating it or drinking it. Why would you drink an alcoholic beverage in Disney World’s heat and humidity when you know alcohol contributes to dehydration! I don’t get it! And maybe it’s me. The heat and/or humidity makes you dehydrated. Alcohol makes you dehydrated, and if you don’t drink lots of water, you may end up with your legs feeling weak, maybe shaking and fainting. Then you end up in Urgent Care or a hospital, ruining everyone’s vacation. Why would anyone subject themselves to that? The older I get, the more I don’t understand people ….. or companies for that matter. I guess it is just me.
