Happy Holidays, DFB friends! If you’re like us, you get up every Christmas morning and watch the Christmas Day Parade from Magic Kingdom. Well, in case you didn’t know that, the parade is usually filmed around this time of year. So if you just happened to be in Magic Kingdom yesterday, you got to see the Christmas Day parade before anyone else!
If you weren’t in Magic Kingdom, we were, and we got to see a little behind-the-scenes action of how Disney makes the Christmas Day Parade happen every year.
One of the first things we noticed is that CELEBRITIES were in Magic Kingdom yesterday. So exciting. We got to see the hosts of this year’s parade, Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White in Once Upon A Time and the voice of Judy Hopps in Zootopia) and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air). Were we a little starstruck? YES! Maia Kealoha, who was Lilo in the live-action Lilo & Stitch, was also in Magic Kingdom for the parade.
Then we got to see the actual filming of the parade. Now, only Cast Members and their guests who registered to view the parade can see it up close on Main Street, U.S.A. Everyone else had to watch it along the rest of the route. Good spots to see it, though, were by the Walt Disney Railroad Main Street station and Frontierland. So we didn’t really get to see anything TOO up close.
The parade is basically the Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime parade that you can see at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but, of course, you’ve got the addition of celebrities and a little extra holiday magic.
It was a lot of fun to see how they filmed the parade, and we enjoy catching the filming every year, when we can.
