In 2024, Disney changed its Disability Access Service (DAS) in Disney World and Disneyland. The changes sparked lots of controversy, and since its initial update, there have been more changes to the DAS website.
These changes have included small modifications in wording, as well as some clarifications. While the new changes have seemed small, their impacts have been large. Over the course of 2025, we’ve seen SIX updates to the DAS system, which may be confusing for those who need it. So let’s dig into every new rule Disney has quietly added to the DAS system in Disney World this year, so you know what is most up-to-date and applicable for your next trip.
The DAS program allows those who are unable to wait in lines to select a return time so they may wait for their turn outside of the regular queue. To utilize the program, those who meet the qualifications must register by meeting with a Cast Member virtually to help determine what aspects of the program will be most helpful to each individual visiting the parks.
These are the DAS changes, by month, that we saw in 2025:
January
Back in January, Disney quietly updated the Disability Access Page’s language to remove the word “only.” Prior to January, the website stated, “DAS is intended to accommodate only those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.”
Now the language on the website states, “DAS is intended to accommodate those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.” This small change may impact who we see as eligible to use the DAS program.
February
Then, in February, the pre-arrival conversation window was extended from 30 days to 60 days. This allows you to talk to Cast Members 60 days before your arrival, rather than only 30 days previously, potentially making your early registration process easier.
The pre-arrival conversation is the step in the registration process when you can live-chat with a Cast Member to determine which services may be appropriate during your visit. There is no in-person option during your visit, but if you do not register in advance, you can have a live video conference on the day of your visit.
May
In May, Disney extended the period during which its DAS is valid to up to one year. This time period had been extended twice before, first to 120 days from 30 days and later to 240 days. The website now reads: “DAS is valid for the length of the ticket or up to 1 year, whichever is shorter. Once the service has elapsed, Guests need to re-register for the program.”
This change gives you a longer period between registering for DAS and the need to re-register for the program. Once you visit Disney World with a valid DAS registration, though, you’ll need to re-register for your next visit.
October
The last change to take place in 2025, so far, was in October. This update changed the live video calling rules and requirements, making them more explicit. Before this update, the “Speak with a Cast Member” section was very basic, only outlining what it was and when you could have the pre-arrival conversation
Now, the “Speak with a Cast Member” section is very detailed with items such as:
- The recording of this video chat is strictly prohibited
- The Guest requesting DAS either for themself or for someone else (e.g., a minor child) must be 18 years of age or older to register
- The Guest for whom DAS is being requested must be present during the video chat.
DAS is provided at Disney World for those who need it. These updates are now in effect and are in place to help anyone who meets the criteria. If you have questions about DAS or if you qualify, you can reach out to Disney’s Guest Services by phone or on the My Disney Experience chat.
