When Disney first announced that it was building a Monsters, Inc. land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we were pretty excited. However, when we learned that we were FINALLY getting the roller coaster of our dreams, one based on the iconic doors scene in that movie, we were beyond thrilled.
Ever since, we’ve been following along with the development of this new land (briefly pausing, though, to mourn the closing of Muppets Courtyard). We’ve seen just how massive the new roller coaster is going to be, but now we’ve got a brand new look at construction on the new ride.
The new roller coaster will be Disney’s first suspended coaster EVER, and as we said, will be themed around the doors chase scene from the first Monsters, Inc. movie.
A new aerial photo by @bioreconstruct shows that Disney has poured the concrete floor for the roller coaster. You can also see just how deep the ride is if you look carefully.
Here’s an aerial video taken of the new land, showing where the roller coaster will be going. This video also gives you an idea of just how massive this ride is.

Here’s another look at the concrete floor. According to @bioreconstruct: “An auger was in this site, worked right to left (in this viewpoint) to drill holes that were filled with concrete. Resulting pilings partially excavated at left. Cut to height, floor cast on top.” Again, we’re blown away by the sheer size of this attraction.
Here’s a close-up of the concrete pillars on the site.
After the concrete floor was poured, it was covered with protective plastic. You can also see workers preparing concrete forms for the next section of the floor for the ride.
Here’s another view of another part of the new Monsters, Inc. land. As you can see, Muppets Courtyard has pretty much been given a complete overhaul and looks SO different now.
Here’s a look at the former Muppet*Vision 3D Theater, set to turn into the Glob Theater (based on the concept art), which will offer a new show in the new land. You can already see some of the exterior changes that have been made.
Construction is coming right along with the new land. Disney has not yet revealed an opening timeline, but we’re keeping an eye on the progress, so be sure to keep following us to stay updated.
