While Walt Disney World’s theme parks — including EPCOT — are never truly empty, that doesn’t mean that some days aren’t busier than others.
For example, when it comes to Disney World’s second gate, the best days to avoid (if scheduling allows) are spread throughout the year, timed with holidays, school vacations, and even the park’s own annual events.
So, let’s begin with the most obvious: Holidays! While there are some definite highlights to spending certain holidays in EPCOT — like watching The American Adventure on the 4th of July or ringing in the New Year with MASSIVE fireworks — they are definitely not the days to visit if you’re looking to avoid crowds.
2026’s major holidays include:
- April 3rd to April 5th: Easter Weekend
- May 22nd to May 25th: Memorial Day Weekend
- July 3rd to July 5th: 4th of July Weekend
- September 4th through September 7th: Labor Day Weekend
- October 9th to October 12th: Indigenous Peoples Day Weekend
- November 26th: Thanksgiving
- December 25th: Christmas
- December 31st: New Year’s Eve
Beyond specific holidays, there’s also the Spring break period, which sees a great deal of American families taking advantage of school closures for a mid-year vacation. While break dates vary by school and state, generally they take place sometime in March or April.
Finally, there’s EPCOT’s annual festivals. While these events tend to always draw major crowds, they’re likely best avoided on their opening and closing days if you want the full experience. The former are often crowded with guests wanting to sample the eats and treats as soon as possible, not to mention the fact that some elements of the fest may not be available yet.
When it comes to the final day of the festival, the issue is fewer crowds (though they are crowded with last-minute guests) and more the fact that by the end of the fest, certain food items or souvenirs may run out, and some experiences may be discontinued early.
EPCOT’s remaining, opening, and closing festival dates include:
- Flower & Garden Opening Day (March 4th)
- Flower & Garden Closing Day (June 1st)
- Food & Wine Festival Opening Day (Roughly near the end of August based on previous dates)
- Food & Wine Festival Closing Day (Roughly mid-November based on previous dates)
- Festival of the Holidays Opening Day (Black Friday, November 27th based on previous years)
If you’re heading to EPCOT in 2026, you may want to avoid these dates if at all possible. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s 2026 dates.
