A while back, Disney announced its goal to bring more short-form content to its Disney+ streaming service, and now it looks like that time has finally come.
Although we won’t be seeing the previously announced user-generated short-form content just yet, this latest reveal is the first step in Disney’s strategy to step into the world of shorter videos and clips on Disney+. Here’s what we know.
Disney+ will start rolling out “Verts” this week. This is the first step for Disney to officially dip its toes into the short-form content water. According to Disney, this new dynamic feed will help users quickly find their next favorite watch. So, what exactly are Verts?
With a tap of the new Verts icon in the navigation bar on mobile, users enter a vertical video feed and can swipe through a stream of scenes and moments from movies and shows on Disney+, and seamlessly add to their Watchlist or jump directly into playback. Disney says, “Verts offers a fun, fast way to explore that catalog right from the moment users open the app.”
You can check out a promotional video about Verts below, thanks to Scott Gustin of X/Twitter.

Disney shared that in early experiments on Disney+, Verts has driven additional user engagement, attributed to their “new advanced algorithm that powers the recommendation engine for the experience to ensure that Verts feels uniquely relevant and personalized to each individual user.
Think TikTok or Instagram Reels, but for Disney+ content.
Over time, Verts will become an even bigger part of the everyday experience on Disney+. At launch, this includes driving discoverability across Disney’s entertainment catalog, with opportunities in the future to add content from creators that reflect Disney fandoms, plus other storytelling formats, content types, and personalized experiences.
Eventually, Disney will bring user-generated short-form content to Disney+, due to a partnership with OpenAI.
The three-year licensing agreement means that users will be able to utilize Sora to “generate short, user-prompted social videos that can be viewed and shared by fans.” As part of the partnership, more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters will be featured on the platform, including a selection of fan-inspired Sora short-form videos available to stream on Disney+.
The timeline for that rollout has yet to be announced.
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates about Verts and Disney+. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more.
