Imagineers have been carefully sourcing and recreating props from that special, including a prototype Tiki bird, a Tower of the Four Winds model, and a doll from “it’s a small world.” It’s an incredibly sentimental opening moment that will set the stage for everything that follows.

New Decades, New Stories

One of the biggest changes coming to the attraction is a full update to the time periods explored in each act. The current version of the show touches on the early 1900s through a futuristic finale, but the refreshed Carousel of Progress will shift the focus to decades guests are more likely to have a personal connection to.

Act 1 takes place in the summer of 1969, with the family gathering around the television to watch the moon landing. Act 2 jumps to Halloween Night of 1985, where Sarah takes center stage for the first time as the family navigates a home full of new gadgets and appliances. Act 3 lands on New Year’s Eve 1999, with the whole family counting down to the year 2000 while a new invention called the Internet starts changing everything. Act 4 looks ahead to an imagined future featuring helpful robots, space travel, and a home that feels genuinely out of this world. That final scene draws inspiration from original concept sketches by Disney Legend John Hench, which is a lovely bit of continuity for fans who love the deeper lore.

The Song and the Style Are Staying True to the Original

Fans of the classic “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” can breathe easy. The Sherman Brothers’ anthem will continue playing as guests move between scenes, keeping that nostalgic thread intact even as the story around it evolves. Imagineers have also emphasized that the physical props, painted backdrops, and practical effects that give the attraction its timeless charm are being preserved and celebrated in the new version.
