If you’re planning a Disneyland vacation in 2027, get ready for some significant changes.
The Disneyland Resort has seen quite a bit of change in 2026, with the 70th Anniversary Celebration wrapping up and notable progress on new attractions being built at Disney California Adventure. Next year will feature even more change — which means our tried-and-true Disneyland traditions will have to change in 2027.
It’s safe to say that your typical Disneyland traditions may need to be altered in 2027. Here are three things that the resort is doing away with in the new year!
Old-School Pin Trading
Disneyland changed its pin-trading policies in 2026, and those changes will carry over into 2027.
Now, you can only trade official Disney pins, and they need to be in good condition with the pin backing attached.
Another rule is that you can ONLY trade a maximum of two pins per Cast Member or trading board per day. This is also a one-for-one trading system, so you can only trade one pin at a time (this means if you’re trading with a Cast Member or board and your pin is worth more, you won’t be able to get two in exchange). And you’ll need to ask a Cast Member or guest before grabbing their pins.
You can trade pins anywhere using a lanyard or small handheld pin-trading accessories, “but no additional decorations or collateral (e.g., lights, signage, displays, etc.) are permitted.” So those big pin binders you’re used to seeing? It looks like they’re being phased out.
Now, designated pin-trading meetups inside the parks are a thing of the past — at least in their previous capacity. Pins are not allowed to be displayed on benches, chairs, or tables. You’ll need to trade with other guests in a more discreet, free-flowing manner.
It’s a good idea to get familiar with the rules online at Disneyland’s website before engaging in pin trading at Disneyland in 2027.

Enjoying the Monsters, Inc. Ride
Over in Disney California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will be shutting its doors for good in 2027.
This adorable family dark ride has survived a few demolition rumors over the years and even staved off a once-scheduled permanent closure in 2026, but Disney has confirmed that the ride will close its doors (all millions of them) in 2027.
The ride is being removed along with most of the Hollywood Backlot to make way for a new Avatar land in California Adventure. This new land will feature a thrilling boat ride.
While we’re excited for this new Avatar expansion, we’re definitely going to miss joining Mike, Sulley, and Boo on their adventure in Monstropolis!

Smelling the Autopia Gas
Some traditions are better left in the past — and this one wasn’t exactly healthy.
Back in 2024, Disney paid the California Air Resources Board a $56,250 settlement to resolve Autopia car engine violations, and the fallout for guests will be experienced massively in 2027. By February 2027, Autopia HAS to switch to using electric vehicles.
This project has been in the works for a couple of years now, and Disneyland officials have created a new vehicle prototype. The previous cars featured Honda engines without certified emission controls, and they were promptly corrected without any environmental impact.
Ultimately, the ride will need to close — either to install these changes or simply because Disney didn’t meet the deadline — or the vehicles might be placed on the ride without any sort of closure. Either way, we’ll keep you posted when that information is announced.
Walt’s original theme park resort is ever-changing, so we won’t be surprised if more traditions are canceled or created in the near future. In the meantime, keep it posted right here at DFB for the latest Disneyland updates!
