The Newest ‘Star Wars’ Movie Will Be On Our Screens NEXT Year

We’re at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event all this weekend, and we’re STOKED to hear all the exciting news about what Disney has coming down the pipeline.

Some of the announcements we expect to hear will be about the Disney parks, but others will be about the new media they’re working on. One of the films we’ve been waiting to hear more about is the new Star Wars: Starfighter film, and now we finally know that this movie will be released in theaters on May 28th, 2027!

Today at D23, Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling joined together on the stage. Gosling was wearing an old Mickey Mouse Club House jacket, reminiscing about his childhood working with Disney. And then Shawn Levy, the film’s director, came on stage holding a black jacket featuring a white skull, and then Gosling switched jackets, confirming that in this upcoming film he will be playing Kade Auberon!

Star Wars: Starfighter will be directed by Shawn Levy and is written by George Lucas and Jonathan Tropper. The film will star Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, and Mia Goth, with other cast members credited so far being Matt Smith, Daniel Ings, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, and Flynn Gray.

Levy has previously discussed how the film is a standalone and isn’t considered a prequel or sequel to any existing film or material. The storyline on IMDb (International Movie Database) currently reads, “A new Star Wars adventure in a previously unexplored period of time.”
