Drive-in + Restaurant = Fun! Especially if it’s actually indoors! That’s what you’ll find at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Picture this: you’re in a car at a drive-in watching silly, mid-century B movies about zombies and The Blob, when a server glides up to your table with a burger, shake, and some fries! Just about perfect, right? I think so, too.

Disney’s Sci-Fi Dine-In is an extraordinary restaurant that’s worth at least one visit for the unique atmosphere, but I bet you’ll be coming back for more.

The Meal at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

The menu here mimics the 1950s era in which the restaurant is set and serves American favorites like milkshakes, burgers, and fries.

Inquire about the Feature Film Burger; this burger rotates out a few times a year, so make sure to ask your server for the current special.

The Atmosphere at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

The Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant is themed as a 50s-style drive-in theatre, offering a fun dinner and show experience.

The tables are cars, and it feels like you’re sitting outside at night watching ’50s ads, commercials, and shows on a big screen.

The restaurant is dimly lit to create a nighttime drive-in feel.

While the dining setup can be a bit quirky, you can’t deny that the immersive theme is charming, unique, and perfect for anyone looking to be transported to another time.

Visit if…

You want an effortless immersive experience. Unlike 50’s Prime Time Cafe, where you’ll be expected to play along in the interactive atmosphere, you don’t have to do a thing to get the full-on immersive experience at Sci-Fi Dine-In. All you have to do is sit in your little convertible-style car table and watch the cheesy black-and-white movie clips play out on the projection screen. (You don’t even have to talk to your fellow group members if y’all need to recharge your social batteries! Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.)

Diner-style entrees are up your alley. If you’ve got a Steak ‘n Shake chain restaurant near you, then you already know what to expect with Sci-Fi Dine-In. Burgers, fries, onion rings, hot sandwiches, hand-spun shakes, and other Route 66-style diner classics.

You want your kiddos engaged all meal long. It can be tough for adults to book sit-down meals when they know their kids can get rather squirmy about halfway through lunch or dinner. But at Sci-Fi Dine-In, the car tables and silly/cheesy movie clips might just be enough to keep them still (and stop you from having to stress over their entertainment while you eat).

Skip if…

You’d prefer to not eat in the dark. This IS a drive-in theater setting we’re talking about here. And while this particular drive-in is all indoors, the lighting inside the dining room is very VERY dark to maintain the outdoor nighttime illusion. Your car table seats will come equipped with lights to help you see your menu, but if you’re on the hunt for a much brighter-looking restaurant, you might still prefer the vibes of 50’s Prime Time Cafe.

You’re a little apprehensive when it comes to the seating arrangements. You are not 100% guaranteed to get a car table. There are also picnic tables situated in the very back of the dining room that you might be seated at instead. You can always request a convertible-style table (and express that you’re willing to wait if it means locking in the car seating), but requests are not guaranteed. That being said, some people might prefer the picnic-style seating versus the car seating — simply because it’s easier to slide in and out of those seats, AND you’ll be facing your fellow group members the whole time VS facing forward and pointed toward the screen.

You’re disappointed in the menu. Let’s face it, diner-style eats aren’t for everyone. So if you’re sick of burgers and fries, and want an entree that’s possibly lighter and less likely to feel like a rock in the pit of your stomach afterwards, you might prefer the options over at Hollywood Brown Derby.

Important Information

• There are a few tables in the back that are picnic table-style. If you’d prefer to sit in one of the cars (known as “automo-booths”), be sure to request it. If you know you want a car, request it for good measure when you check in at the podium.
