in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is a guest favorite. It’s here you’ll find burgers, chicken, and the occasional limited time offering (like these funky Galaxy Fries and the lauded Pork Belly Burger)! But the popular quick service spot is currently undergoing a refurbishment — partially.
At present, construction walls are up around Bay 2, where you’d typically find a selection of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The walls extend through the central seating area (the largest section of seating in the restaurant), including around the stage where diners would normally spot Sonny Eclipse.
Here’s another look from Bay 1 looking toward Bay 2. Note that both toppings bars are still accessible, but you can’t get through Bay 2 to move from Bay 1 to Bay 3.
Bay 2 and the central seating area are visible through the windows, and our Disney pal Daniel Wanderman (@wanderdisney) took a peek for us. 😉 Sonny has been removed from his stage, but we’re assured he’ll be returning.
We’re told that it’s likely Bay 1 and Bay 3 will be refreshed after Bay 2 reopens, and the restaurant is expected to remain open throughout the refurbishments.

Do you know how long he will be gone?
AMANDINE FUCHS says
Ohhhh no I so much hope he will be back when we’ll be there in April.
I didn’t know sonny when we came long time ago and now I’m aware of it and I really wanted to saw him sing and make jokes he’s gone!
I’m so sad right now
Fingers crossed
DFB Sarah says
Matthew, we haven’t yet heard a timeline for the refurbishments at Cosmic Ray’s. We’ll let you know when we hear!
Jen Misener says
Is there still ample seating here? Was planning on a dinner here this weekend but wondering if I should plan for somewhere else?
DFB Sarah says
Jen, there’s still seating on the sides nearest Bays 1 and 3. If you’re dining at an off time, you should be fine. It may be trickier during busy mealtimes. Have a great trip!
Diane says
Is Sonny back? I’m taking my son to Disney next week (February 18th) for his 16th Birthday and he asked that I make all the dinner reservations so he’ll be surprised. I was hoping to take him here, thought he’d get a kick out of it. So far I’ve been very lucky with my bookings. Just this week, I’ve gotten us into Be Our Guest, Sci-Fi Dine-In and 50’s Prime Time Café. If anyone has the answer, please let me know. Fingers crossed my luck holds up.
DFB Sarah says
Diane, he is back! Bay 1 is currently closed, but Bays 2 and 3 and seating in those areas are open!
