It is crazy to think that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios over a year ago!
There are so many unique experiences on Batuu like piloting the Millenium Falcon or building your own lightsaber. Savi’s Workshop, where “scrap metal” turns into a saber, recently reopened, and now, taking a cue from Droid Depot beginning to sell loose parts, they’re selling additional parts for your lightsaber!
The “Gatherer” AKA Cast Member we spoke to at Savi’s said this was brand new and being offered since many guests had requested that additional parts be sold separately. When building a lightsaber at Savi’s (meaning you made a reservation and committed to the hefty $200 price tag), you have four themes to choose from with various parts to select in each theme. In the full experience, you select parts from JUST the theme you selected. NOW, you can pick from the same sets but a la carte!
The full Savi’s experience still limits you to just one of the themes, and previously, the only real customization available was purchasing different colored Kyber Crystals at Dok Ondar’s to change the color of your saber’s blade. Now you can change up the whole hilt!Â
There are four types of parts: emitters, sleeves, switches, and endcaps. These are the same parts and sets that you’d select from when doing the full experience at Savi’s! Â
Parts from the Peace and Justice saber might suit you well, if you’ve dreamed of becoming a Jedi.
If Darth Vader was your role model, you might lean towards Power and Control.
For those of you who love nature, the Elemental Nature set could be your fav! This is the only set with the Rancor tooth.
And, last but not least, the Protection and Defense pieces.
Outside of Savi’s Workshop, you will see a sign for Build Your Own Saber Parts. Each part on its own is $24.99. If you buy two parts, each part is $20.00. Remember, these parts ONLY fit the lightsabers you can build inside of the workshop, and you’ll need a reservation to get in to make one of those (or a lightsaber you built on a previous visit!).
This actually makes that “custom” saber you shelled out the dough for even cooler — now, instead of committing to just one style of theming, you can mix and match! You could go crazy and mix a Power and Control Emitter, a Peace and Justice Sleeve, a Protection and Defense Switch, and (of course!) a Rancor Tooth Elemental Nature Endcap (or any combo you choose!) — the possibilities are at your fingertips…if you buy the spare parts!
This is such a fun way to create a new look for your Savi’s custom lightsaber! Now you can swap pieces anytime you want. But heads up — don’t think this is a slick way to shave some cost off the price of a custom saber though — the inside parts and blade that make the saber work ONLY come from the full Savi’s experience! So have a saber at home or be prepared to build a full one if you want to take advantage of this. As always, we will keep you updated on any news from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Can you just buy the parts, or do they want you to have done the experience that day? I bought my savi saber last year and getting choices would be awesome.
DFB Sarah says
Alex+Long, Savi’s has sold “scrap metal” parts individually at the Cast Member (sorry — Gatherers’) stand out front in the past. I haven’t heard confirmation that this returned (or didn’t return) since the reopening, though.

Hello! I’m going to Disney next week and wanted to check and see if the stand out front has come back yet. I built my lightsaber a good while ago (Jan 2020 if I remember right), and I would love to have additional options for its look!
DFB Sarah says
Michael, we have seen the “scrap metal” for sale since October. I’m double checking with a reporter to confirm it’s still available. I’ll pop back into comments if she tells me they’re gone.
Michael Goodson says
Sarah,
Okay awesome! Thank you!

Any idea if the new scrap metal is available in Disney World Orlando? I built one a year ago and going back next month. I’d love to do this experience again but given the high price, we don’t want to do it again if it’s not the new scrap/pieces. I keep seeing everything about this new scrap in Disney Land but nothing about Orlando and when they’re expected there. Any info you have on this would be awesome!

I don’t know about the individual bands and parts of the light saber itself, however I have found the end of the hilts such as the heads and talons and stone creature heads and things are available in Dok Ondar’s Den of antiquities.
