We have known for some time that Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge would be a place where guests could build and create their own customized, high-end lightsabers.
But today, Disney has released new and EXCITING details about Savi’s Workshop in Black Spire Outpost on the Planet of Batuu. These new details and backstory for the workshop truly give us further understanding as to just how immersive Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to be…
Do you feel a strong connection to the Force? To find those who feel that same connection, the place to seek will be Savi’s Scrapyard, a hidden workshop on Black Spire Outpost. But before you can access the workshop, you must make an appointment with the Gatherers. The Gatherers are “a group of men and women who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy.” They do this by passing along their knowledge of the Force as well as the ancient ways of the Jedi.
Savi, one of the original Gatherers, and his friend Lor San Tekka (who made a brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) believed in the Jedi Orders ideals and strived to pass on their knowledge of Jedi lore. For Savi, this meant creating the workshop by way of establishing a salvage business which served as a front to disguise his ultimate goal of guiding the next generation of Force wielders. But how, exactly? Why, by assisting them in building their very own unique lightsabers!
So…if you’re ready to learn this knowledge, be on the lookout for a symbol on the front of the shop, which will let you know you’re in the right place. In order to get inside, you must tell the Gatherers the secret phrase! Sounds pretty epic already, right? But that’s just the beginning…
These same Gatherers will act as guides to those who seek help building their own customized lightsaber. The Gatherers have secured a giant collection of stories and kyber crystals, along with additional saber parts from all over the galaxy.
Stepping inside Savi’s Workshop, you will be surrounded by all sorts of lightsaber parts and pieces. But eyes will then be drawn to the center of the room featuring a large oval-shaped Builder’s Table which was assembled from ancient salvaged pieces. The table will be able to accommodate up to 14 lightsaber builders at a time.
So now onto the most important part…the LIGHTSABERS. The four themed lightsaber building options include Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense.
Peace and Justice lightsabers are salvaged from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships with building pieces that were created for Force wielders of the Republic era. The design will be simple to reflect the commitment to the devout life of the Jedi Order.
The Power and Control lightsabers were reclaimed from the ashes of the rumored Sith homeworld and abandoned Sith temples. The pieces were originally forged by the Sith of their time and their sharp form will represent “the brutality and relentlessness of the Sith’s insatiable desire for power and control.”
The Force, as it is known, is an energy field created by all living things. The Force “surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together.” The Elemental Nature lightsaber pieces are “born of that same Force” and as unique as the elements of nature. Examples include the wood from a Brylark tree, a bone of the Cartusion whale or a tooth from a Rancor.
The Protection and Defense lightsaber is “cultivated from a time forgotten.” Featuring some of the earliest discovered lightsaber pieces, they will contain designs and inscriptions that are, as Disney says, “shrouded in mystery.” These lightsabers are created for protection and defense, reconnecting “the user with the most ancient wellspring of the Force.”
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland on May 31, 2019, and at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios on August 29, 2019.

Does anyone know if there is a one light saber per person rule at savi’s workshop? i am going next year and one of my friends might be asking me to build one for him but i dont know if there is anything that might prevent that.
Tyler, we aren’t 100% sure. If we hear, I’ll update!
