We found some FUN construction news today!
You might remember that Disney announced a NEW Gelato Cart coming to the Italy Pavilion last year. Yes, there already IS a gelato stand (Gelati), but the new one is set to replace. Now, we might have a clue as to WHEN that will be and WHAT it will be called!
This morning, we spotted a permit filed for 1773 Avenue of the Stars by Patina Restaurant Group to “Install [a] new food vending building.” That address is located in the Italy Pavilion. Could work have begun on the new Gelato Cart?
It’s certainly possible! After all, it has been confirmed by Disney that the new cart will be run by Patina Restaurant Group (they run a few other restaurants on Disney property including some of those in the Italy Pavilion).
Plus, the address on the permit is for the area next to the La Bottega Italia store on the way to The American Adventure Pavilion. This spot is currently surrounded by construction walls, and we weren’t sure why. This permit very well could be the answer!
Now, the specific building that the address is coded to is called “La Gelateria” which is NOT the current name of the gelato stand (or located in the same spot). Could this mean that the new spot will have that name? Maybe!
The permit is also filed with Icarus Exhibits who tend to do some theming work for Disney World which would track with this being a permanent, in-theme installation.
AND, that’s not all that’s interesting about this permit. The expiration date is noted as December 31st, 2021, which means the work is expected to be completed by the end of next year. If this IS for the Gelato Cart, that gives us some idea of when we’ll be trying the 12 different varieties of gelato and sorbet, including gluten-friendly and plant-based flavors.
Wowza, that’s an exciting permit! You can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on this spot and waiting for more news about the upcoming Gelato Cart. So, stay tuned!
