A few weeks ago, California issued its theme park reopening guidelines. The strict guidelines prompted speculation that large theme parks including Disneyland Resort might not be able to completely reopen until 2021.
However, since the guidelines permit small theme parks to reopen once their counties reach the Orange Tier, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk became the first theme park to reopen on November 7th.
The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk had been closed for seven months, but recently reopened on November 7th with a limited capacity of 500 in-county visitors and an advance reservations requirement.
However, the Boardwalk rides and mini golf are now closed again due to its county re-entering the Red Tier.
Red Tier falls into the “Substantial” category, and the guidelines for that tier indicate that amusement parks must close. The Boardwalk recently announced on Twitter that rides and miniature golf were closed, although bowling will remain open until Friday at 11PM. Games, food, shopping, and pedal carts are also set to remain open at this time.
Guests with upcoming ride reservations will automatically receive refunds. All guests still planning to visit the Boardwalk will need to comply with the current guidelines that are in place, including social distancing and mask policies.
Disneyland Resort will remain closed until it reaches the lowest tier on the state guidelines, and Disneyland recently canceled all reservations through December 31st. We’ll continue to keep an eye on any additional developments, so stay tuned for more information.
